Very enjoyable visit. Minehead is not a top location but the surrounding areas make up for it. One negative point. The tiny TV just bigger than an A4 piece of paper they have to better than that!

This was our 5th visit to the Northfield. The staff are always welcoming and pleasant. The inclusive evening meals are excellent and the table service breakfast is well organised. How do they do it for the price? The bedrooms are clean and tidy and in keeping with the Victorian feel of the rest of the hotel. Rooms are warm even at the beginning of February. The pool and jaccussi were warm too. We were given a free upgrade without requesting one so spent the night in a large bedroom with a chaise loungue (?) set in the bay window. There are several options for walks - in the grounds, the parrk closeby, the woodland and nature reserve as well as the old harbour area, seafront and town centre. In season, a trip on the steam railway is a treat. Basically, The Northfield is like a home from home and we look forward to each visit.

When we booked we wanted to pay £240 extra for a deluxe sea view room, impossible to get them to confirm upgrade, eventually rang and spoke to manager who emailed confirmation of upgrade but when we got there we didn't have that room because there was a coach party there. The room they gave us was 2nd floor end of corridor where there were really noisy pipes from 6.30am to 10.45pm and the room was really hot. They did move us when the coach party left to a sea view room but windows impossible to open and close, couldn't get shower to produce hot water on shower setting only through the tap. Bathroom not clean, black mould round toilet lid, water overflow in sink and bath, and tiles. Edges of room dirty and dusty, not cleaned. Didn't service room first day, had to ask for milk, etc. When they did then service it just replaced milk, etc and towels, sink was never wiped down as it usually is during service. Only cereals on offer in big jars were cornflakes and rice crispies. Fruit salad and yogurt where very nice, but no real alternative if you didn't want cooked breakfast. Cooked breakfast items were only just warm, boiled eggs came hard boiled. Heating wasn't put on in the hotel, but they did put a plug in heater in the room. Lounge was cold when the weather changed a few days in, hardly anyone in it, so cold and no atmosphere. Food in evening very limited choice and mostly poor, braised meat or chicken and dry. Again never very hot. Wanted you to order dessert before 8pm. Felt rushed both at breakfast and dinner, but they did improve this when we mentioned how we felt. On our last night we asked if we could pay to have something off the bar menu but eat in the dining room because the lounge was cold and no one else ate there but we were told that we couldn't. Feel that without paying for upgrades rooms Travel Zoo customers get the worst rooms, and did even though we wanted to pay to upgrade. We weren't charged for an upgraded room. Even on checking out they had charged £29 for a bottle of £22 wine that we had, despite no bottle on the wine list was £29. The most expensive was £26. The management need to sort out the way the hotel is being run. Unless you going there on on a coach trip.

The location is ideal for walking into town or the seafront. I stayed 6yrs ago and things have changed slightly. Breakfast buffet could be better. Having to give 24hrs notice for a cream tea isn't always possible. The public areas have been improved and are nice to sit and relax in. It's good that they accept dogs. The pool is a plus. Small changes would make it better if I was to stay again. It's still a nice hotel to stay in

It was our first time at Northfield Hotel and hopefully won’t be the last. Our room no. 17 was on the second floor which was large and accommodating. One of the blinds on window had been removed and also some strip lighting was removed. It’s only a trivial complaint as everything else was great. We had a wonderful view of Minehead beach. The hotel was spotlessly clean with a huge landscaped garden ideal if you’ve got a dog( we haven’t). All the staff were friendly and professional. The menu at the restaurant changed daily. I had salmon first night and sea bass. We had a first night meal deal but on average 3 course meal was a reasonable £26. The food was delicious. The breakfast times were 8am until 945am. The table you were allocated you have for all dining times. The ambiance of the hotel was superb. It was busy at the hotel with a number of guests had returned there previously a number of time obviously a good indicator of a well run hotel. Plenty of free parking and only a comparatively short walk to the beach. It’s an old hotel but well maintained. Painters there were keeping things in ship shape and didn’t affect us at all.

We walked to the beach and made our way left to to the quaint harbour and then walked along the coastal walk which was lovely. Later on we walked the opposite way towards Butlins which was a bit Blackpooly but great if you’ve got young children. A further walk towards the town centre and had a reasonable priced lunch and cheap beer in the Wetherspoons Duke of Wellington pub.

A lovely house set in beautiful gardens ( though challenging terrain for a disabled person)
Everything was clean, fresh and inviting.
Dinner was very good in the lovely dining room as was breakfast. We couldn’t fault anything except the rather fearsome lift, though it did make us laugh.
We’ve decided that we must go back at least every summer.
Thank you Northfields Hotel for a lovely break.

It was our second visit to the Northfield Hotel with Travelzoo as we loved it do much the 1st time the only disappointment this time was we're in a room and the view from the room was a fire escape whereas last time we had a view of the sea on departure we mentioned it to the receptionist and she said next time tell them we don't want room 2 and gave us a couple of alternatives. We were staying there for my birthday so paid extra to stay the Friday and Saturday night army birthday was on the Saturday and we wanted the meal on the Saturday as well which was absolutely beautiful. The breakfast had a great choice of continental choices whereas my husband had the cooked breakfast. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly and the hotel grounds were a short walk to the seafront. We would definitely look forward to staying with them again.

Very dirty carpet in the public areas. I don't mind a little tired or worn but it needed a good clean. And the state of the room itself. Something's were broken. Quality of furniture was poor,
The layout of the actual hotel is odd and internally doesn't make the most of the space they have got. Couldn't find anywhere nice for pre dinner drinks. The bar seating area was full.

Staff sarcastic. Also made us sit in another room even though they told us we had the same table for the entirety of our stay?! My son ordered the cheesecake and was told it’ll was the last piece left. Returned to tell him they’d given it to someone else and laughed. My son in tears. Dangerously low light fittings that you banged your head on. Like an old peoples home and not really suitable as a family hotel. Tired and dated.

Staff friendly & attentive. The garden is stunning. Our room was enormous with en-suite bath and separate shower - plus a fab sea view. Breakfast was done the way we like it, part service part self-service. Hotel was nice & warm (rather important right now!) with lots of lounge areas and a bar of course. The hotel is elevated, but not excessively so, and It's a short walk from the hotel down to the seafront. We would certainly stay again.

Hopefully these comments are for the hotel only. We found the evening meal choices a little limited, though we fully understand the challenges when you're quite a large hotel therefore catering for a large number of guests.
Now a real nitpick, could you provide Marmite at breakfast and perhaps just a little more fruit - but overall we thought the breakfast was excellent in all departments.
