"Staff are fantastic, very friendly and cheerful and willing to help. Location is great for Hadrian's wall and lots of beautiful scenery. Breakfast was excellent. We ate in the bar on our first night which was ok. No decent beer unfortunately which is a shame as a few bottles of the local ale (there's a brewery down the road) is surely not difficult to organise. The 3 course meal included in voucher on second night was great. Our room was satisfactory. Would definitely consider returning under similar deal."

Gilsland Hall is the most welcoming, beautiful and all round positive trip we've been to for a while. We were instantly welcomed and made to feel comfortable and a part of a small friendly community. My partner had an incident on our way here and we ended up in A&E for 4 hours, meaning we checked in at 9.30pm. Barbara was such a smily and friendly lady at the reception desk who gave us a small tour upon check in. Michelle is the bartender and she is just the most attentive, accommodating and sweet member of staff ever! She could not do enough for us and helped my other half with giving advice about post injury care and supporting him if he needed anything including a few wound dressings and sterile wipes. Absolute star. Hitham, the Egyptian night staff was caring and bubbly too, from offering us water jug and glasses to take back to the room after our time in the bar, to offering us to check out a little later (which allowed my other half to rest more so thank you so much!) The entirety of the staff were incredibly caring and there were no members of staff that looked like they didn't love their job. Happy staff, happy customers. And it's 100% true here. They go above basic standards and I say this myself having 4 years experience in the hospitality industry knowing how to provide great customer service. I honestly couldn't fault any of their service. Gilsland is a must visit! We will be back soon and we are looking forward to it, we miss Gilsland already!

My husband and I went to Gilsland Hall Hotel because we wanted to visit Roman sites on Hadrians Wall. The hotel was convenient for places we wanted to visit. It was a pleasant hotel with beautiful grounds and lovely views. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment. Our only niggle was the WiFi, only available in the main rooms and very weak. With the Travelzoo’s voucher, the break was very good value for money.

Excellent value for the price we paid. The building is stunning in beautiful grounds which you can walk round. The staff are all extremely pleasant and the food is good. The room we had was quite simians dated but I got the feeling that refurbishment is ongoing and hadn't reached the second floor yet. All in all a more than pleasant couple of days .

Couldn't quite work out their dining system . You could only eat in the dining room for your included meal. Other evening meals had to be taken in the bar. The food was fine but surroundings not quite as nice .

It would have been better if we had been given our allocated room, on the front of the hotel. However we were given a disabled room with a rather shabby bathroom. We were told there was a maintenance issue/ wet paint in 215 but we discovered that it was occupied by someone by the name of George. The staff, apart from the receptionist who was less than honest with us, were very good. The hotel is in need of refurbishment in places. My husband suffered a heavy fall in the entrance hallway due to wet dogs coming into the hotel. The guest before us at checkout reported, to reception, that they witnessed a dog relieving it's self up the curtains.

Lovely, friendly and attentive staff! excellent breakfast. Rooms super clean but decor dated. Hotel generally in need of makeover but has the potential to be stunning. View from room superb and the location is paradise and handy for exploring, walking and Hadrian's Wall.
