More Reasons to Go

- The hotel has been awarded 4 silver stars and 2 Rosettes by The AA.
- The Daily Telegraph describes the property as "the real deal: a 14th-century castle—all battlements and seven-foot thick walls", while the Manchester Evening News says it has an "abundance of historical intrigue and romance".
- The hotel is just outside the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and around 10 minutes' drive from the pretty market town of Hexham.
- Travelzoo members who reviewed their stay praise the "glorious setting", "amazing food", and "excellent service"; the free daily tour of the castle, which includes the battlements, is also a hit.

We were two couples having a mid week treat and were not disappointed. Good food, beautiful castle and amazing location. Enjoyed the tour of the castle the following morning, learning a little of the history. Staff were great and very friendly. Would love to visit again.

Excellent service in dramatic Northumberland castle in beautiful surrounding countryside
Other Comments
Two night deal bed and breakfast good value but then price nearly doubles when dinner and drinks added so any future deals might perhaps need to be Dinner, Bed and Breakfast with just a drinks bill to be added. Also a “mandatory “ 10% service charge added to restaurant bill which because the service was excellent was not a problem but we would normally like to reward staff rather than the hotel taking the tips. As the hotel is in the middle of the country there is no other option but to eat in the hotel restaurant rather than drive the 8 miles into Hexham as choices are limited in that area

I booked this as a birthday present for my husband and wasn't disappointed. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We stayed in a Castle View room which was lovely but a little bit of a walk from reception especially in the rain, but just had to wear out coats. We loved the free guided tour of the castle on the morning at 10.15 which I believe they do every day. Just loved the whole atmosphere of the castle hotel and will definitely return, hopefully to stay in the castle next time.

Breakfast & Dinner excellent.

Offered an upgrade to a room in Castle from a room in the cottages. Given that there was snow on the ground and was almost dark. We readily accepted.
We will return.

Enjoyable stay in a unique building. Minor faults which we wouldn’t expect :
Old pair of someone else’s socks found in bedside drawer, no soap provided but provided on request, not all light bulbs functioned on our 2 night stay. Great atmosphere and excellent food.

From the minute we arrived to leaving it was just wonderful and has to be the best Travelzoo (bar dinner at The Ritz) experience we have had. Staff, service, rooms EVERYTHING was first class and the tour was a bonus.

I really enjoyed my visit, the only complaint that I would have was that the room was far too hot and made it a bit stuffy.
