Why We Love It

  • The Cartwright Hotel is a Grade II-listed former coaching inn dating from the 16th century
  • The property is near the Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire border between Banbury and Oxford, in the quintessentially English village of Aynho
  • Aynho is affectionately known as the Apricot Village due to the abundance of fruit trees. Legend has it that villagers in the cottages used to give apricots to the lords of the manor as rent
  • Broughton Castle — a grand, moated manor house with ornamental gardens — is around 15 minutes' drive from the hotel
  • You can visit the Cotswolds countryside, Silverstone Circuit, or Bicester Village designer shopping outlet — all are within 20 minutes' drive of the hotel
  • Bletchley Park, the British Motor Museum, and Waddesdon Manor — a 19th-century country house built in the Neo-Renaissance style of a French château — are all less than 35 minutes away by car
  • The property features an oak-beamed real ale bar with an oak floor and a wood-burning stove, and a candlelit restaurant that serves dishes made with locally sourced seasonal ingredients
  • The hotel has increased hygiene regulations to prevent the spread of Covid-19 — there is a one-way system in the bar and restaurant, and housekeeping will not enter the room during your stay (fresh towels will be provided on request)

Parking is free. Junction 10 of the M40 is a 10-minute drive from the hotel, and Banbury railway station is a 15-minute drive away.

We had an amazing time at the Cartwright Hotel. Our room was great. We felt that the bath needed a handrail on the wall to assist getting in & out of shower as the bath was slippery. This is meant as a friendly advisory. Only slight problem was the elephants up stairs. In future I would ask for a single storey room. The staff were so friendly & attentive. It was a short brake for my husbands birthday & I had brought cards he had received with us. When the housekeepers saw them they made him a card & left it in our room with some treats for him. He was so chuffed. Thank you so much. We are recommending to friends already. xx

The staff are very friendly. It is a beautiful hotel with a lovely atmosphere. The breakfast was delicious and ample- a great way to start the day. The room was very spacious and cleaned to a good standard (bar bathroom)
Other Comments
Our bathroom was not cleaned properly. There were nails on the floor which are quite dangerous as we were walking around barefooted. The sink had what looked like wet coffee inside it. I ran the tap and it washed away which made me think that the bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly. We were on the ground floor of a 2 floor apartment. The floors where quite thin and we were woken up at 7am by the people upstairs who were constantly moving for 3 hours and speaking very loudly. There was also limited parking which I appreciate cannot be helped.
