Reception staff taking our 'phone booking were pleasant and helpful; food plentiful; cocktail bar staff equally helpful (although very busy and slow service);

1. Due to the weather the dining room was not in use so we had to eat in the cocktail bar. The seating and tables were armchair type chairs with a small table, more suitable for relaxing round rather than being sitting at a dining table. We had to lean forward in the chairs and reach forward to put food onto our plates then lean backwards into the chair to eat. 2. The tables themselves were small, a second one had to be brought to hold the food, so we had to stretch out to reach the food in addition to moving forwards and backwards in our chairs. Not at all a comfortable or relaxing experience. 3. The room was full, both diners and hotel guests having a drink, just two staff on duty, they were very pleasant and hard working but inevitably service was slow. 4. The overall ambience in the room was not what we expected, more suitable for drinking rather than relaxed dining. 5. Food was plentiful and tasty, however no more than would be expected at similar establishments.

We were disappointed in the food, particularly the pastries. I don't know if they were made 'in house'. They were more of the quality you would find in a high street bakers than that you would find in a 'good' hotel'
There was little atmosphere at the Devonshire Arms.
We have had afternoon tea using another Travelzoo Voucher at the Swinton Estate. The standard of the food at Swinton Estate was much higher than that at the Devonshire Arms

Beautiful location and beautiful hotel. Would love to revisit to enjoy a lunch, dinner, even an overnight stay. The afternoon tea was lovely - with the only exception of the fruit scone that was very disappointing and overworked.

Four of us had a beautiful afternoon tea in lovely surroundings. Every member of staff was welcoming, friendly and professional. The voucher represented a very good saving on the original price and was very good value for money. We all enjoyed it very much and would book again if another voucher was offered.
