Dating back to 1699, Castle Howard is one of the UK's "grandest country manors" (Time Out). Explore the estate with insight from an expert guide, on a private tour just for Travelzoo members. Tours start from £29 per person, with extras not normally included when booking direct.
What's Included
Entry for one person to one of the private Travelzoo member tours at Castle Howard:
Castle Howard has featured in TV and film for over 60 years. Explore the backdrops of "Brideshead","Bridgerton", and more, on the filming location tour. You'll get to find out the secrets and practicalities of filmmaking in a historic building.
Join the curatorial team on the pyramid walking tour and discover Castle Howard's 18th-century landscape. You'll explore parts of the wider estate, including ancient trees, the originial gatehouse, and Medieval-style walls. Then head towards the Pyramid, where you'll have the rare opportunity to go inside.
The 21st Century Renaissance tour will take you on an in-depth curator-led tour of the house. Learn about new developments in the Tapestry Drawing Room, Long Gallery, Grand Staircase, and more. The team will illustrate how designs were settled on and the intricate work involved by specialist craftsmen.
After your tour, you can explore the grounds, which include extensive woodlands, temples, lakes, and waterways.
*Please note that this tour will encounter staircases and is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users.

Lovely weather to walk around the grounds and the inside was fine thought there maybe could have been a few more rooms to see eg kitchen etc. The food and drinks were okay from the cafe.

A stunning setting. The house was gorgeous and very accessible. You could use the audio guides which were very informative about each room in the house but if you didn’t want to then each room was manned by a someone whose knowledge was vast and enthusiastic. Lots to see in the grounds from the walled garden to the boat house. All kept immaculately. Well worth a visit. Will be going again, hopefully at Christmas.

Pleasant day all around good company nice surroundings good food and wine what could go wrong with a viewing of the castle thrown in. I would have like the tour to have been longer and seen more of the out of the way places in the castle but that is just me it may not have suited the other guests. A long chat with Clare was much appreciated.
Other Comments
The staff at the entrance booking in desk did not know if they should scan the paperwork Travelzoo provided or not before they could let your guests in.

Unfortunately the castle is looking very tired in places and has fallen well behind venues like chatsworth and Blenhim palace and many smaller family statley homes I could mention

Enjoyable day with access to grounds and house included. Few comments to make experience better like chocolate or scone after guided tour with coffee/tea, maybe something for the drivers other than water, and did not get impression that we saw more rooms than the normal tour although this was advertised.

Wasted some time trying to find the Courtyard entrance so drove around the site twice! Enjoyed walking around the grounds. Didn’t have time to visit the walled gardens. Spectacular views of the House from the grounds. Grecian room was a delightful venue & the tour & Q&A sessions were very informative. Beautiful rooms & decor. Lovely staff.
Other Comments
For people who haven’t been before, some signage to guide Travelzoo guests to the Courtyard entrance at the car park & outside the gift shop entrance would have been really helpful and saved some time.

It's a stunning place with a lot of history and the house visit was particularly good because the main rooms were staffed with very knowledgable people. The visit was spoilt by a shortage of staff both in the coffee bar shop and the ticket office which meant very long waits in long queues. Probably due to the lovely weather on the day, staff said it was the busiest day they had known for a long time.
Other Comments
Based on the numerous available weather forecasts for the day, which is why we went yesterday, management should have had the forthought to organised enough staff to cope with the number of likely visitors. We got there at 11.30 and there was only parking available on the grass, all the carpark spaces were full.

A walk through the ancient woods back to the house Staff and volunteers friendly and helpful which added to the experience. The house fantastic with modern sculptures in the park and in the house. Stopped for refreshments then wandered around the wall gardens lovely weather great sun shining all the time. Spent time at the farm shop meat quality and cheeses wonderful. The Castle was very busy as we were leaving but we had an amazing visit.

Pleased to have taken advantage of the Tracelzoo offer which saved us £25 on entry price for a group of 3 adults. Enjoyed looking around the rooms on display. Particularly enjoyed the grounds especially the walled garden and woods. We found the shops extremely expensive. We had 2 coffees and 2 small prepacked cakes and it cost £17 !! Would hate to have paid for a meal

Good value booking from Travelzoo. We paid £58.50 for 3 adults and to pay on the day would have been approx £93.00. Thank you Travelzoo.

From the moment you enter the long drive into Castle Howard you know this stately home is special. We had the most truly wonderful day in spite of the rain. Castle Howard is stunning steeped in History which is relayed by staff as you enter and navigate inside we marvelled at The Great Hall and also at the private chapel which were our two favourites. The grounds even on a wet day are just as stunning with the water fountain and lake. The Spring Afternoon Tea which was included in our voucher as well as entry was an absolute bargain and was beautifully presented in The Grecian Room we felt very special with the open fire roaring it was truly a 5 star experience. Thank you!

Greeted with a woman shouting “ooo I’ve got a Travelzoo 3 times” - embarrassing. She then got a supervisor who also struggled to do what they needed to do. They really should be better prepared & not delay or embarrass visitors like this, so not the best start. We were booked for 12:00 afternoon tea. We asked in the cafe & young lad took us to the room door & left - nobody there & empty room. When someone finally came she told us they weren’t starting until 12:30 so would we “go for a walk or something” & come back then. She also took our names which weren’t on her list but said it was ok she’d fit us in. Unbelievable.
Upon our return we were seated - tables for 2 are really too small & they struggle to fit everything on so a bit of a challenge. Afternoon tea itself was good quality & very enjoyable - shame you look onto scaffolding.
Enjoyed looking around the house & grounds & the ride on the “Kelly train” down to the lake & back. Coffee in the cafe was decent. Walled garden was lovely to walk around & good ( pricey, as ever) ice cream before we left. As with all of these places the shops are expensive, but they are nice to look around & we did buy some items from the grocery shop on the courtyard.
Despite issues we did really enjoy our afternoon - we were there 5 hours & it just flew by.
