"A friend and I went to Bedern Hall during York Christmas markets. It is a beautiful historic building in a tranquil spot 2 minutes from the hustle and bustle. The staff and volunteers were fabulous, showing us the hall and the guild maces and other treasures. The afternoon tea was lovely and plentiful but not over whelming, the mince pie scones with brandy butter were a lovely festive twist."
Afternoon tea is served in the café or garden terrace and includes home-made cakes and scones fresh from the café's kitchen.
The hall dates back to the 1390s with a long history closely tied to that of York Minster. It originally served as the dining hall for the Vicars Choral.
Restoration of the hall began in 1979 and features stone masonry and timber framing. This provides an insight into the hall's Medieval past.
Bedern Hall has a "treasure trove of stories waiting to be told" (The Yorkshire Post).

We received a very warm welcome. The staff serving our afternoon tea were exceptionally courteous and pleasant. The lady who baked prepared our tea was”the jewel in the crown!” We intend to visit with my daughter in law and new grandson on the 27th of June.🤞Thank you!👏

We tried to use our voucher last week but the tea room was full. Another group of 3 were also in the same situation. As it was raining we couldn’t sit outside but could have sat in the hall but the lady who we spoke to wouldn’t allow it. Hence we had to return to Middlesbrough.

Although the hall is only small, it was very interesting. The afternoon tea was delicious and not too big that we couldn't finish it. First time ever this has happened. We were given a lovely glass of prosecco to begin, followed by a choice of scones and also a choice of sandwiches, all of which were delicious. Would highly recommend.

We met 2 very nice ladies who were volunteers and told us all about the hall and it’s history. We then had a lovely afternoon tea with sandwiches, sausage roll lavender scones and cakes that we couldn’t finish so brought them home. We then had a good walk round York as it was very close to the Minster.

Excellent experience at Bedern Hall just over a week ago which whilst being in the centre of York was a little off the main tourist streets but well worth visiting. The very knowledgeable Jill was the guide and explained the history of the hall and the cream tea was wonderful, served by a lovely friendly lady ( unfortunately didnt catch her name) with a choice of 3 different scones and delicious freshly prepared sandwiches and very tempting cakes.

Bedern hall is tucked away near Monksgate walk and just a short walk from the Foss Car park. As a Senior couple we found the experience of Afternoon Tea at the hall a refreshing change from the Tourist hotspots of York, with staff whose only concern was that we enjoyed their home cooking and friendly attention. We would certainly recommend anyone visiting the Hall for tea, to walk into the Ancient spaces there and absorb the wealth of History contained within it's wall.

The whole experience was very pleasant, extremely friendly and helpful staff greeted us at the door, so a good meet and greet experience, and we were seated at a table of our choice. The food was of an exceptional quality - all homemade for one. Throughout the experience our needs were met/accommodated so much so my friend and I would have no hesitation coming back or recommending to Bedern Hall to others.

In error I purchased 2 vouchers and both were redeemed, also in error, but the offer to attend again using 1 of these vouchers up to the end date was confirmed while at Bedern. A very good customer service experience all round.
We were also impressed with the knowledge of our guide who told us about the history of the hall and answered our questions with ease.
All in all a pretty seamless experience, simple and fuss free booking with attentive staff which exceeded our expectations and needs.
