Booked this for a short break for my birthday despite the season. The hotel generally and the food it serves in particular were really good. Betws Co-ed is a pleasant small place and nearby attractions are plentiful. Bodnant Gardens, with good facillities, is about 15 -20 mins away & we were delighted to be gifted a mainly dry day with sunshine where the Gardens enchanted us with spectacular views to snowy mountain peaks in a vast acreage offering autumn colours, water features, an ancient mill turned museum and myriad plants, some flowering, especially in the Winter Garden. It would be well worth staying in The Royal Hotel for the opportunity to visit Bodnant Gardens alone, but there is much more to see and do as time permits.

Very friendly staff, breakfast freshly cooked to order with a good choice and excellent evening meal. Great location and easy accessibility to excellent walking opportunities.

The hotel bedrooms were clean with good storage but need updating. They were very warm but the staff brought us cooler bedding on request. The hotel had has a fascinating history and any updating would have to keep the ambience and character of the building. We loved our mini break.
