When we arrived we were given room 311. We went to the room and found it had not been cleaned after the previous occupants had left. We were then given room 3 which looked okay at first. Later on we found cobwebs and some sort of beetle crawling across the floor. There was a shortage of staff. I played golf and was told that 50 staff had been made redundant at the hotel. The food in the restaurant was not good. Fancy putting Chicago Town Pizzas on the menu!

We booked 6 rooms and after reading some reviews we considered cancelling. But we stuck with it and so pleased that we did. The place is like a big old dame. A bit wrinkly but full of charm. It was clean, COVID enhanced, the staff were extremely friendly and the bed was fantastically super-comfy. I would definitely recommend. Don’t be put off by the duff reviews. The Welcombe does not deserve such negativity We all thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay there and would’ve liked to stay longer.

We were put in a room with a window facing air conditioners vents in the roof. The window could not be latched hence very poor for health and safety. The distance to the room invlolves a long walk and 2 flights of stairs. They moved us to a better room only after we complained twice.

Had a two night break with my best friend. Due to Covid we had separate rooms this was probably unnecessarily over cautious on my part! The rooms overlooked the gardens which we loved. Although the hotel is a little tired we loved our stay. The hotel has beautiful styling and grand features of times gone by you can really imagine it as a Manor House. The location was perfect with walks straight out the front door. Do walk up to the monument and then the opposite way into town. So easy and accessible. The gardens are a delight to behold and really lovely to sit and admire. The staff were super friendly and helpful all the time. The pool was clean and well managed and nowhere was ever busy. Social distancing was easy and breakfast particularly well managed. Thank you we will return!!

Hotel was beautiful but the experience was totally spoiled by the lack of facilities. Fail to understand how they could operate the spa - but not the bar or restaurant. I believe this was an economic not a safety decision by the hotel. It was not what I expected and not what I paid for!
Other Comments
We were not informed in advance that Covid-19 meant there would be no bar or restaurant operating and everything had to be ordered through limited room service
