The Victorian-built, grand hotel makes for an "appropriate setting" (The AA).
Tom Kerridge is one of Britain's most prominent chefs and known for his elevated British cuisine. He owns The Hand in Flowers in Marlow. It was the first UK pub to be awarded two Michelin stars and remains the only one in the country.

Excellent service. Good menu with three choices per course. Good quality champagne. Extensive wine list but wine also available by the glass, carafe etc. Delicious bread, especially the treacle bread.

Food was excellent - just not enough of it (nouvelle cuisine-sized servings) !
Whilst there were other accompaniments on my plate, and the lamb itself was excellently cooked, my lamb kebab consisted of 2 small cubes of lamb, each one not much bigger than a stock cube !

Service was quite slow, considering we didn't think it was that busy. The dining room was quite dark, and the music was a tad too loud.
We were on a Travelzoo offer - which included a glass of champagne (Laurent Perrier, I think) - would have been happy with a cheaper brand of champagne, if it meant an extra cube of lamb !

We arrived before the restaurant opened and enjoyed cocktails in the bar. The staff was pleasant and attentive and the whole place has a warm, welcoming ambience. On our deal we chose from a Menu du jour menu which was preceded by canapes. The food was beautifully presented, portion size was good (especially the starters) and it tasted as good as it looked. The whole evening was a very pleasant experience. We travelled from the midlands to take up this offer and it was well worth the trip!

This is one of the most enjoyable restaurants we've been to for some time with a great venue, excellent professional service and really good food. We went off the fixed menu for a couple of dishes which were superb and will certainly return again which is not something we often say about some London restaurants with good reputations, but don't deliver.

Lovely little canapé and beautiful bread and butter served with a very welcome glass of Laurent Perrier. Nice to see a decent, quality glass of champagne served and a welcome surprise. Impressed so far.
Unfortunately the main of halibut in a lobster sauce was terribly over seasoned boarding on inedible. We ordered the cavolo nero (kale) as a side to cut through which did help a little. Fish was under for both of us so parts were left along with the over seasoned sauce.
The famous chunky chips we also found over seasoned. Soup starter delicious tasting, fresh and looked vibrant. Dessert of bread and butter pudding incredibly rich. You couldn’t eat lots of it but a spoonful or two was fine. Didn’t find the menu well balanced for our pallets.
Would we go again? Doubt it based on the food but certainly wouldn’t tell others not to try it. Maybe we got a bad day? Also PLEASE check the bill. We were over charged by £40 but it was quickly rectified when pointed out.

As a wheelchair user, we had to get access through the hotel to use the lift, as the main Bar entrance has got multiple steps. The hotel was beautiful with wonderful flowers which all added to the experience .
During our meal, we were aware of the music being to loud for us and we felt the wrong type of music for that setting, especially when you want to talk. We did mention the volume to the waiter during our meal and he said he would have it turned down. The food and the service were excellent.

It was our 53 wedding anniversary. l should have chosen some where more intimate. It was a large dinning area with very high ceilings. We were given a surprise, a special anniversary chocolate torte. Thank you.
