The 5-star property is less than a 15-minute walk from a number of London landmarks, including Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, and the Palace of Westminster.
Built in 1884, the hotel was originally used as a base by MI5 during World War I, and New Scotland Yard was previously situated next door—the One Twenty One Two restaurant takes name inspiration from their famous Whitehall 1212 telephone number.
The Daily Telegraph recommends the hotel for its "delicious" food and "extremely welcoming" staff.

A beautiful hotel. Easy to get to from Embankment station. A lovely welcome from the young lady on entering and shown to our table. Ozoda s service was spot on. Very polite and efficient. Drinks were regularly replenished. The food was extremely tasty, well presented and just fab! Paid extra for dessert course. Didnt feel rushed to leave. Later in the day we returned to the Lounge for refreshments.

It was our first visit to the Royal Horseguard Hotel. The atmosphere was festive due to the beautiful Christmas decorations. The food was delicious and the portion size was good too and the supplements reasonable. The only let down for us was the service. It took 45min for the first course (starter) to arrive and the main took also quite some time then there was a confusion about the desert. Somebody had forgotten to pass the order on to the kitchen.
Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would go back.

First course, delicious but had to lay extra for our choice. The second course was ok. However the ‘exotic ‘ fruit salad was anything but. A bowl of uninspiring fruit which was too chilled and looked rushed - the strawberry’s were not hulled properly. So, sadly let down at the end

We did wonder if this would've happened if we hadn't had to pay for extras as we presumed we had already paid the £59.

This was advertised as a bottomless brunch but staff were not at all attentive in refilling our glasses. We had to ask for our drinks as other guests did too. Prior to our booking we went to the bar for a cocktail, the lady behind the bar had obviously never mixed a cocktail in her life and it took 15 minutes for her to mix two cocktails. This is not the kind of service you expect in a top London Hotel it was awful.. Two of us ordered the steak and eggs this arrived with no egg and no triple cooked chips as advertised. A plate then arrived with an egg on it and a separate basket of fries again very disappointing. All in all a very poor experience we will not be returning.

I didn't get a reply to my booking request email and when I rang, I was always cut off. Eventually I rang the hotel reception who transferred me to the restaurant.

Staff very friendly, food was good but the kedgeree I ordered was not kedgeree. It was (beautifully) grilled salmon on a bed of rice with chick peas.
Excellent customer service. Courteous, caring, unobtrusive.
With Travel Zoo vouchers it is really good value for money.
A historic building and a good venue
for meeting family and friends.

It is meant to be a 5 star hotel.. yet the restaurant itself is antiquated! Furniture must be at least 30 years old. Dining tables chipped, table mats frayed and seating not comfortable because it chairs and bench seating was so old and fabric stained. The place needs a refurbishment to bring it up to a 5 star standard. The food however was actually very nice! It was my partners birthday which was said to the hotel when I booked yet they did not bring out anything for him ( no candle in desert) but a different table for 2 on the travelzoo deal got a desert with a candle in for some lady's birthday.
So all in all no I would not return unless the hotel and the restaurant was brought into this century!

This is the 5th time we have been to 1212. Excellent in the past. This time service and the rest of the food was up to standard - except the disappointing steak.

Staff very helpful and attentive. Food good. I did have a problem with my main meal i.e. I was told they could do it without the chillies. This was done with those which one sprinkles on the top but not those in the sauce. This was dealt with efficiently and pleasantly. Only down sides, slow service, 30 minutes wait before starters. Limited menu, which meant that it would have been, if available, a maybe score for returning
