More Reasons to Go

  • The Keswick Country House Hotel occupies an elegant building set in four acres of gardens. It's only a few minutes' walk from the charming centre of Keswick. Previous guests include Queen Elizabeth II and Kaiser Wilhelm II.
  • The hotel scores an impressive 99% approval from Travelzoo members who have rated their stay. The "exceptional" service, "great location", and "delightful" grounds score particularly highly.
  • Public areas include a lounge and bar, and a restaurant with views of the gardens.
  • There are a host of walking routes on the hotel's doorstep. The property is next to a walking and cycling route from Keswick to Threlkeld that has been converted. Converted from a disused railway line, it provides level access along its length.
  • You could also walk around Derwentwater and watch the fells reflecting off the lake surface.
  • For something more challenging, take on Skiddaw, the third-highest mountain in England.

A pleasant hotel in a good position. It is set in nice gardens close to the town centre. We particularly enjoyed the evening meal that was included in the deal and paid for an additional night. We would definitely return

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night break at The Keswick Country House Hotel. All the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The meals are excellent and so delicious. The hotel is full of character and located in a quiet location very near Fitz Park. Easy short walk to Keswick centre, where all the shops are including the bus station.

Overall a great experience. The only negatives were some of the corridors etc, rather tired. Breakfast was disappointing compared with dinner, which was exceptionally good. Staff brilliant.

A lovely hotel set in a great location, close to all Keswick has to offer yet far enough out of the centre to avoid the hustle and bustle. Dina checked us in very efficiently, gave us all the relevant information for our Travelzoo stay. We stayed in room 115 on the first floor, it's towards the back of the hotel with not a great view but, not an issue being somewhere like Keswick. We'd have preferred a walk in shower but again, not an issue for the length of time we were staying. This is an OLD building so as befits one of this age the bedroom floors aren't guaranteed to be straight, ours had a definite slope to it. It was beautifully clean and tidy. We chose to have our evening meal and bottle of wine on the first night of our stay and cannot fault the food or the service, although a set menu, there was a good choice to suit all, there was also a good selection of wines to choose from. Breakfast was one of the better buffet styles that we have had and again, the service was very good. We took our packed lunch down to the lake and my only criticism would be the ciabatta was a little dry, I prefer mine buttered, this wasn't, but that's my personal taste. The gingerbread was lovely. We were lucky to have two days of very good weather and were able to enjoy the hotel and Keswick to the full. Being situated right by Fitz Park and the river is a definite plus, as are the "neighbours" (rabbits) who came out to play on the lawn. Overall, a lovely relaxing stay, somewhere we'd definitely consider returning to.

Outstanding staff, friendly and helpful. The meal was very good. The bathroom was clean and the shower efficient, but it was small with the towel rail right beside the toilet and little space to put wash bags. However, the bedroom itself was spacious. Both dinner and breakfast were good and served by very pleasant staff. The garden was attractive. The deal was good value and we would come again.
