The room was very nice with all facilities expected, food was excellent, the area was absolutely beautiful. Access to all areas was really good. Brilliant 2 days.

Ok, clean, quite comfortable but we didn't realise the hotel is geared towards large groups( coachloads?) all on dbb bases. The only dining we were offered were £30 each 3-course meals so we ate elsewhere. Too noisy at breakfast. Staff pleasant and efficient.

A short midweek break, booked room and breakfast. It was very easy to book in for dinner one evening and it's also excellent value. The staff are friendly and informative about the area.

The food is always exceptional. It's not fancy architectural creations, but generous portions of classic dishes where each component is extremely flavorful.

Very much a walkers hotel. Rooms & communal areas are dated. However breakfast and staff are excellent. Ideal location for walking Ullswater or the fells. Special mention to Hazel who went out of her way to help with a minor medical issue.

I have stayed here before & can't fault the staff & location. However, this time something has changed. The food was mediocre, like school dinners from start to finish & the room I was originally assigned was awful but they did change that when I asked. Previously I wouldn't have hesitated to return but this time it felt like a very budget hotel.

Great location...perfect for walking

Great location and the hotel staff were fantastic . The rooms are a little dated but the bedding was gorgeous white crisp bedding . Breakfast was good , not a massive choice but adequate for what we needed . All in all a very pleasant stay .

It all felt really quite unwelcoming when we arrived. We couldn't find anywhere to park outside the hotel to unload our luggage. There's an overflow car park over the road for the hotel but not helpful when you are arriving - and leaving. We ended up squeezing into a space on the drive. The receptionist who checked us in was unfriendly bordering on rude. I think she was French judging by her accent. Yes, it was busy when we arrived and there were several staff booking people in, but there's really no need for being quite so unwelcoming! The stairway to our room was shabby and our room was shabby too. It was clean though so which is what mattered most, and we'd been given a nice view which we'd asked for at the time of our phone booking, and that was appreciated. The weather was good whilst we were there, but there was only one small radiator in the room and nothing in the ensuite. We were amply warm enough though, partly due to heat coming through the walls from the corridor and the adjoining rooms. The walls were thin and you could hear your neighbours. That would put us off returning, unfortunately. The room had a double bed, not king size. I'm not sure if there are other rooms with bigger beds. The ensuite had nowhere to put your clothes when showering. There were two hooks but we used those for towels. There was no curtain or blind at the ensuite window either, just frosted glass. I felt uncomfortable by that, especially as our room fronted onto the road. The breakfast was enjoyable and the staff were professional, looking after guests well. The coffee was especially good (although we took our own cream. Milk was provided.) We liked the position of the hotel, and our deal was very good value for money, although we wouldn't return.

The hotel has bar snacks until 5pm. The restaurant only seems to offer 3 course meals at £30 per person. We'd have tried eating at the hotel if there'd been lighter options available. All staff, apart from the initial receptionist and one other male who watched me struggle to open a door with luggage without opening the door for me, were professional.

We thought the restaurant staff were rushing around making it the atmosphere not relaxing and also they were coughing whilst serving food. This should have been stopped.

Didn’t know what to expect need not have worried - great location lovely food nice staff on the whole - not posh but clean and comfortable.

Great place to stay for walking or driving to nearby towns and whisky distillery

Lovely couple of days in relaxed surroundings. Comfortable room with a nice fabulous view. Excellent service in the restaurant particularly from Hazel.

Very big hotel ,a bit impersonal and too many people for the restaurant ,so we had to queue for breakfast for about 20 minutes . We couldn't eat at the time we wanted in terms evening .

Small rooms paper thin walls lots of noise from other rooms and corridors. Bar food good breakfast ok evening meal in restaurant over priced, had first night dinner would not pay £30.0 per head for meal on second night.

The hotel us outdated and needs some investment. Room was good size but bed mattress needs replacing as one of us was nearly falling off as it was so soft on edges and unbalanced. Location of the hotel is just perfect to explore Ullswater. Plenty of parking spaces across the road.

Room very cold - not been occupied that week and heating not turned on. Rescued by receptionist who bought a portable radiator from her home.

The room was very dated and all the carpets were unclear. The beds were small ,the plaster was coming off the walls and the wallpaper was peeling. There were screws coming out of the furniture and the chairs were dirty. We didn't stay, we left immediately and found another hotel.

Got a brilliant deal. Great staff. Perfect spot to stay in the area. Would go back!

The hotel is extremely dated, food was dreadful, staff were hit and miss. Hotel is suited to walkers. I’m not one of them.

No frills hotel in great location. Room was clean and adequate, excellent bath/shower. Food was okay. Staff were hard working and helpful.

Stayed here pre lockdown and was pleased to see that the hotel is just as nice, everywhere was clean, staff were friendly and attentive and the food was good.

Brilliant place for a break especially if you like walking.

Staff very friendly and hardworking. Meals were all fine - Accommodation quite dated / ready for an uplift in parts. Good value for money

The main courses at dinner were good.

The bedroom, the mattress was way too soft and the pillows rock hard. There was black mould in the corner and the extractor in the bathroom didn't work. The bill at checkout was incorrect. The entertainment on Saturday night meant you couldn't sleep till it was over, which after a long day out and about, even on the horrible bed, was impossible.
