It is hard to understand the rating system. The hotel was warm and welcoming, as were all of the staff. The evening food was at a very high standard and the menu was varied, breakfast was excellent and hearty with full English as well as continental. An excellent comfortable location to explore the lakes.

We found the Patterdale hotel suited our needs perfectly, it's in a great location and easy to find. Once there, we found we could access everything on foot. The rooms were lovely and warm and the bed was very comfortable. The decor in some parts was little faded but this didn't detract from our lovely experience. Where the Patterdale really excelled itself was it's staff..every staff member we dealt with was professional and courteous but most of all really friendly..nothing was too much trouble for them.The Patterdale may not be for everyone but we'll be returning and are more than happy to recommend it.

The cream tea was lovely.
There was a lift which you do not always get. It would have been nice to have a proper shower as some of us cannot get in a bath but that was okay for a couple of days.
The location is smashing with a bus stop outside.
We would not return because of the noise but some people absolutely love it there

Unfortunately rooms were dated but this doesn't bother us if we get a good nights sleep but we didn't. The floorboards are really creaky and the people upstairs may as well have been in our room as we could hear everything they said and they were probably not shouting. Also there was music playing and we realised in the morning that it was the piped music downstairs which played from 8am to closing time. Not good when you go to bed or wake up to it.
The breakfasts were lovely but the evening meal not so. Soup was nice enough but the roast beef dinner was covered in gravy that had rosemary in which overpowered everything so I could not eat it. The Yorkshire pudding was so stodgy that was inedible and I love YP. Dessert was nice enough.

Loose Tiles in the bathroom and a ridiculously powerful shower that could not be reduced.
Lock hanging off the bedroom door.

It was a very good value for money experience in a beautiful location. Our room was small but had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable. A step into the bath shower isn't ideal these days so suggest upgrading to walk in showers as and when possible.

Excellent value for money. Plenty of staff on hand, all friendly and wanting to help. Wallpaper torn in a smallish area, otherwise room was fine, though personally, I prefer a harder bed. Good breakfast with adequate choice. 2 evening meals were excellent with a good range of options. Someone in the kitchen knows what they are about- above expectations.

The hotel is a little bit tired and dated but perfectly clean and comfortable. We spent two nights there and had a great time.
The staff were friendly and attentive......everyone from Reception, to Restaurant , to bar......all really helpful.
The food was excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant on both days. The food was excellent quality and great value. There was a good choice of dishes on the evening menu and a great selection of cereals, fruit , cooked items, pastries and toast for breakfast. Every meal we had was served hot and well presented.
There was a singer in the bar one night. This made a great evenings entertainment and chance to chat with other guests. The bar prices were reasonable too.
The location was good too. We did the whole trip on public transport. There is a great local bus service going to Penrith, Pooley Bridge, Windermere and Bowness. We used this both days and had some lovely boat trips on the lakes.
A great hotel that we would stay in again.

The hotel position was perfect. The staff in reception and cleaning staff were excellent. The waiting staff not so good. We were 2 minutes early for breakfast on the 2nd day and we were told very abruptly, to the point of being rude, that the dining room was not ready. The food (evening meal)in the hotel was not up to standard. Over cooked meat. The cream tea on the 2nd day was served with squirty cream!

The rooms were comfortable if a little tired. We had paid extra for a lakeside view. We have stayed in many Lake District B&B's that offered better accommodation at a similar, if not cheaper, price.

Friendly check in , rooms n public areas were more user friendly than when we last visited.. a bout20yrs ago! Good dinner and excellent breakfasts, Very old building so floorboards do creak somewhat …even after renovations/ updating.

Staff were generally helpful, smiley and gave good service. However, on the first night we strolled into the dining room to attend for our booked 7pm inclusive dinner as 4 customers booked to dine together,….trouble loomed because we were accused of never t having booked n there was no table set for 4 to dine ??? Communication from reception had not filtered to the dining room and we were embarrassed by the retorts in a busy dining room seating other diners who heard the saga! We insisted that an email was sent to reception about our wish to dine as four n we also repeated same and booked 7pm fir a table. Then a table was hastily set with muttering but no apology to us till I protested about the treatment and embarrassment meted to us! Pleased to report afterwards we were treated as valued customers who may return or recommend the hotel👍
