Lovely tea and beautiful setting, but the staff really need to learn how to communicate with guests. No one asked if everything was ok or even came over to check if we wanted anything else. The service was very poor, other than bringing over our drinks and food. Very disappointing and not acceptable, especially in a hotel of this calibre.

We were not satisfied with the choice nor the quality of food provided. When I asked about other options the reply was anything else would be charged. We were provided with 2 scones each which was good but not enough clotted cream and jam to share. We asked for more clotted cream and jam and did not get it. The sandwiches were not nice at all - bread was not fresh enough and the fillings were miserly with lack of flavour. At time of ordering we informed them 2 were vegetarians and the choices were egg sandwiches and tomato and cucumber sandwiches. Surely, they could be more inventive!! The cakes provided were: battenburg, some mini pie (no filling - should have been blueberry perhaps going by the colour) with cheesecake topping and pannacotta which was not nice (rather rubbery). The only saving grace was when I asked for an alternative to the battenburg that the waitress came out with lemon drizzle which was very nice indeed. So, compliments for that. I also requested some cassis for the "bubbly" which they provided. The grounds of Cowley Manor was beautiful but, we had travelled from London and was looking forward to the afternoon tea but we were quite disappointed and left deflated.

Lovely stroll round the grounds before our afternoon tea. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice glass of fizz to start then lovely afternoon tea. Great pot of tea and coffee. Lovely selection of cakes and scones. Very nice setting.
