The Mill Hotel is a converted water mill on the banks of the River Stour, which flows through a landscape of "pastoral hills" and "comely villages" (Lonely Planet) in Sudbury. A bed-and-breakfast break is now less than £30 per person, and saves up to 51% on stays until February, 2022.

Bury St Edmunds, Colchester and the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, made famous by the paintings of John Constable, are within 35 minutes' drive of the hotel
Parking is free. Sudbury railway station is less than five minutes' drive from the hotel. Children under the age of five stay for free; children aged 5-16 are an extra £10 per night when sharing a room. Well-behaved dogs are permitted in selected rooms (enquire on booking).

We’ve stayed many times at the mill
And had a meal there in the summer when social distancing was observed
Seriously considering cancelling my remaining voucher at the mill which I purchased through travel zoo

Only one waitress on duty in the bar area table left full of glasses and plates all used
Waited for a while in bar to order gave up asked to use restaurant but was told fully booked only option was to get room service which obviously cost more it’s a shame but the only way to feel safe and comfortable

We have stayed at this Hotel on a number of previous occasions. Always booked via a Travelzoo offer. This is the first time we have stayed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The ambience was very different this time. Not very enjoyable, but no fault of the Hotel. The senior staff were generally excellent but the junior staff, especially in the restaurant/bar, seemed to lack appropriate training.

We felt that £12.00 per night supplement for our dog was excessive - especially as the breakfast sausage and dog biscuits at the bar were not provided - as they were in the past. Also disappointed with the slow and inefficient dinner service provided in the bar. Items ordered were not served and we were charged for items we did not order.

Poor ventilation and old windows has resulted in mouldy windows in the bedroom. Regular maintenance/cleaning to improve the appearance is required.
Staff sickness left the breakfast period very chaotic, the staff were doing their best to cope under pressure.

We were at the top of the old mill, third floor - which I requested. There are no lifts so would not be suitable for anyone with issues getting up that many stairs, but there are plenty of other rooms available.

The Mill was great, especially the restaurant which was first class. All the staff were friendly and professional.
The mill was Ina great location, the only comment is that the carpeting throughout was looking quite tired and thread-bear in places on the stairs.
Otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable staff - I will definitely recommend and visit again.

Busy weekend but staff excellent. Restaurant meal lovely on Friday night but unable to book on Saturday due to a Wedding. Our room 51 was large with a great view but my husband had to duck all the time under the low beams and we were on 3rd floor with no lift . We should have been made available of this as we are both well over 70' and had to drag suitcases up 55 steps

The standard rooms in this hotel are really quite small so be prepared for that information when booking. There was no room for a chair in our room. A stool was provided under the desk, but there wasn't enough room to pull it out and sit on it.

This is a goldmine of a location but the management of this hotel is pretty poor.Because we paid only £59 and we had studied the TripAdvisor reviews our expectations were not very high. Sadly the hotel lived up to the mediocre feedback. The breakfast team were much better than the bar and evening team
There seems to be a lack of training, staff engagement and "management by observing".

Paid the extra £10 to upgrade to a 2nd floor room overlooking the river. Unfortunately the huge weeping willow tree (see the Travelzoo photograph) obscured most of the view but did not detract from our experience. Took a walk across the meadows accessible from the hotel before dinner

Large car park almost opposite the hotel free of charge; just register the car details at reception. Food in the hotel restaurant (from which the working water wheel can be seen through a screen) was excellent. The breakfast was very good probably equivalent to at least £10 each or more elsewhere thus making the accommodation only about £39 for a double room (£49 with the upgrade.) Staff very pleasant. We shall return.

Disappointed that the food and drink app was not working so everyone had to go to the bar and social distance was impossible. Made being asked to wear masks in the public areas of the hotel a bit pointless really. The masks did spoil the atmosphere hence my low score. Sign of the times I know!

The hotel is positioned on the edge of town with easy access to walks over the wetlands and into the countryside. Watching the sun go down from the roof terrace was superb.
We upgraded to a superior room which was nice, just a couple of niggles with no towel rails and inadequate lighting in the bathroom.
We ate twice in the restaurant, the first time the food and service was very good, however the second time the service was poor and we waited over an hour before we got any food.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, and it is well situated for exploring the local area and the seaside.

The location of the hotel is excellent and the reception staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the hotel is let down by the restaurant. We tried to have lunch there on arrival. The wine didn't arrive and I had to chase it. Only part of the food order arrived and we discovered the girl hadn't put the complete order through. We left. Breakfast was the same. Having done the order as requested only some of the food was served. No tomato or sausage. The male member of staff was excellent but the girl was hopeless.

it was very tired and the room was very plain but was a comfortable stay.
We had booked an evening meal and the food in the restaurant was good and the bar staff very friendly.
Breakfast was strange as you had to tick a form for 7 items which they were very strict about. Juice and toast etc was then self service which did not seem very covid safe as you ere touching the dispensers and tongs

The hotel was clean throughout and CoVid measures were well managed. The setting is lovely and there is on-site parking available.
The restaurant food is very good indeed and partaking in the Government scheme.
We were very fortunate and were given a beautiful room. What a bargain!

We had a 2 night stay at The Mill, on a bed/breakfast basis. Our room was quite small, but beautiful view, clean, good en-suite shower room, and very good breakfast. Under the current Covid regulations, the hotel conformed to everything necessary. Very friendly staff.
