The room was a good size and bed was comfortable. The bathroom was good with a good working shower. The afternoon tea was pretty substantial and good. Shame they don't do dinners but didn't need it with the tea. The breakfast was good and as you would expect from a buffet breakfast. We had a reserved parking space which was great. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff was great and there was always someone at the front desk if help was required. All really exactly what I would expect of an older style seaside hotel.
Other Comments
The spa was a bit tired looking and the shower (only one) in the ladies changing room was broken and had signs of mould round the sealing. I reported the shower and I guess they fixed it but the whole area was a bit offputting and if I went back again I wouldn't use it unless it had a facelift. But this was not really a matter that would bother me and I would go there again anyway.

Very close to the front and bus stops and included free car parking. Hotel was quiet so little atmosphere and not the pjs mascot spend the evening. Excellent breakfast. Rooms ok if rather compact. Had to be moved to another room die to some problems with our first one but that was ok. Most staff were efficient but not all - and I had to find out Travelzoo pin no a couple of weeks after our visit because they’d lost their note of it. Overall a nice couple of days.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Abbey Sands. Our room was large, bright, clean and comfortable. Breakfats was superb. But what really makes this place special are all the fabulous members of staff. Every one of them was helpful, friendly and happy to welcome guests. Without them, the Abbey Sands would be just another hotel. We wish them all the best and would love to return to see them again.

We only got 1 afternoon tea we booked for 4 nights so should of had 2
We were kept awake from the early hours of the morning with shouting and arguing guests.
Relations of ours organised a bottle of champagne to be put in our room on arrival as a surprise and we didn’t het it.

Great location, just a short walk to the main beach.
Staff were really friendly (especially Peter, the receptionist).
The hotel is looking a little tired in places, but the rooms were clean and the food was very good. There were lots of breakfast options and the ingredients were good quality and very tasty. The afternoon tea included in the Travelzoo deal was amazing!…we just couldn’t manage to finish it.
The only negative was the parking situation at the hotel, where spaces were very tight and it was easy to get blocked in.
We decided to pay the extra £15 per night for a larger, sea-view room, which was definitely worth it….this break was amazing value!😀

Characterful hotel with many original features in very convenient location. Our room was large, furniture dated but I think an upgrade is in progress judging by some room photos online. Good breakfast but sadly no other meals or snacks are available which seems a pity. all staff we encountered with friendly and helpful.

The outdoor pool was out of action when we were there; didn't want to use the indoor one so am unable to comment on that. There is no lift.

Initially disappointed - the room was 'pokey'. My partner complained and we were immediately moved to a larger, really pleasant room with views. But still disappointed - no fridge / mini bar. No morning paper. And no restaurant.

This hotel, confirmed by a discrete chat with a member of staff, was a once splendid up market (for an English seaside resort) hotel that has been run down and seen better days. Though the bathrooms are modern and well cared for. HOWEVER... we changed from 'disgruntled' to 'delighted' after the breakfasts (2 days stay) and the afternoon teas. The staff were beyond excellent and so often went the extra mile to please. I mentioned the Sunday paper to the front desk and the lady said: 'I'll get you one.'The Sunday Times was delivered to our breakfast table on Sunday Morning.
Much whispering in the breakfast room along the lines of ' Where did he get that paper from?' Tee hee.
The same happened with Monday's paper just 10 minutes before we checked out and left.
If the drive from Cheltenham and return wasn't so tedious (M5), we'd go again.

The hotel was situated in a great location, had free parking, the service was first class from the moment we stepped into reception. And the food was delicious - the cream tea with 2 large scones was wonderful. The swimming pool was a great bonus, I had a lovely swim in the morning of our stay, and had the pool to myself. The room was large, the bathroom has obviously been updated to a high standard and there were plenty of bottles of shampoo, shower gel etc. Having a tray for tea and coffee was a lovely gesture. We will definitely go back and stay there again.
