Why We Love It

  • The property is in the centre of the village, nestled between the fells and the shores of Grasmere
  • The village of Grasmere has many shops, pubs and cafés, and is popular with walkers
  • William Wordsworth described the area as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found" -- the poet lived at Dove Cottage, which is now a museum, and is buried in St Oswald's Churchyard
  • Amenities include an indoor pool, a sauna and a fitness room
There is a lift in the hotel, however some rooms are only accessible by stairs.

Parking is free, but there are limited spaces. Alternatively, you can park at the nearby Red Bank Road car park, which is less than five minutes' walk away and costs £7 from 8am-6pm (free at other times). Windermere railway station is 25 minutes away by car.

Room was small, very tired looking and in need of refurbishment. Carpets were stained and furniture battered. Parking was probkematical. At £199 we expected more for our money

Food was brilliant, good selection of beers & spirits. A very, very cosy & comfortable place, no blastingly loud juke box or fruit machines.

The location - Grasmere is idyllic and the hotel was well situated to enjoy the village itself and the surrounding walks and countryside. We also loved being able to take our dog away and the hotel was accommodating and relaxing for us and our dog.

My wife and I were allocated Room 303. This room was generally substandard. The bedhead was against a wall which the room's radiator was attached to and therefore preventing proper heat radiation. There was a towel placed between the headboard and the wall to stop the headboard banging against the wall. A screw was protruding from the wooden carpet gripper between the bedroom and bathroom. Then there was the shower! My wife attempted to have a shower Saturday evening but no water was forthcoming. We both had other showers, when it did 'work', where the temperature ranged from warm to scolding hot. I'm sure the Health and Safety Executive would appreciate the range of temperature of the hot water!!!!! The only positive was that the Duty Manager waived the additional £50 for staying on Friday and Saturday nights after our complaints. I suggest Travelzoo read the reviews regarding Rooms 301 and 303.
