More Reasons to Go

  • The Bodmin Jail Hotel has undergone a £60-million renovation — The Daily Mail says the transformation is "sensational" and praises the property's "striking" design features, including an atrium-style skylight in the reception area, underfloor-heated bathrooms, and a swish champagne bar
  • The hotel is steeped in history — it was built during the reign of King George III in 1779 and housed the Crown Jewels during World War I. Plus, all rooms feature a small plaque with information on the former inmates
  • Your stay will include a self-guided tour of the award-winning Bodmin Jail attraction, including the Dark Walk interactive experience, which uses theatrical effects and the latest technology to transport you back through the prison's grizzly past
  • The Chapel Restaurant is located in the former prison's Gothic chapel; you'll be entertained by "an immersive atmosphere" (Forbes) as you eat, thanks to the restaurant's light show set to music. The menu includes dishes created with locally sourced ingredients, such as Cornish beef fillet and cauliflower tart
  • The Courtyard Restaurant offers a more casual dining experience, with pasta and pizza on the menu
  • Head to the beach for the day — Daymer Beach and Port Gaverne are each 30 minutes' drive away
  • The Bodmin Moor Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, home to stunning Cornish scenery and plenty of walking routes, is 20 minutes' drive from the hotel

We spent 3 nights at Bodmin jail and it was a great experience. The jail has been beautifully renovated to give a luxury feel throughout; it is a feast for the eyes. The 2 restaurants offer exceptional quality food - we were most impressed. Our voucher included dinner in The Chapel restaurant and it was a wonderful memorial experience- what a setting! I’d recommend even if you’re not staying at the hotel. The champagne bar is a lovely space and the staff are a credit to the hotel. All round wonderful stay.

Staff were very friendly & helpful. Evening meal menu was limited but we enjoyed our choices. The restaurant was pretty hot despite fans running. Breakfast just lovely! We enjoyed the experience of staying in a beautifully converted historic building with such a history but would struggle to return at full asking price. Enjoyed splendid walks in the area & taking pics of fellow guests rather gorgeous cars...Ferrari & the most awesome Audi!!
