Why We Love It

  • This Victorian hotel has a secluded beach and direct access from the gardens to the South West Coast Path, a spectacular coastal trail with "dramatic cliff scenery, rare wildflowers and an interesting coastal history" (National Trust)
  • You can take a scenic walk, discover secret coves and then head back to the hotel and warm yourself by the roaring fire
  • The hotel has two restaurants, both offering seasonal menus. The Terrace offers casual dining with uninterrupted sea views, while the 2-AA-Rosette Fallowfields restaurant serves up a taste of Cornwall with "accomplished cuisine" (The AA)
  • The wildflower-strewn cliffs provided the backdrop for the BBC's "Poldark", and also inspired author Rosamunde Pilcher's novels
  • The picturesque Kynance Cove is an hour's walk along the South West Coast Path. Look out for seals and Cornish Choughs along the way
  • Cadgwith, a peaceful fishing village that's a 50-minute walk west along the coast path, is notable for its fresh seafood, history and traditional pubs
Parking is free. The hotel is just off Housel Bay Road and the A3083. The A30 is 40 minutes away. The nearest railway station is Redruth, approximately 40 minutes' drive from the hotel.

*The hotel is closed for refurbishment from 18 December, 2019-6 February, 2020.

We were over charged on our bill which the manager semi-corrected. The dinner was included with a £25 supplement. There was an extra charge for the starter but we were also charged an extra charge for our main course although this was not marked on the menu so we were a bit annoyed.

The location and although there were disappointing aspects on this visit I hope they will be rectified in time as our previous experience had been faultless.
Other Comments
We were forewarned that the hotel had new ownership when they could not be contacted prior to our visit by phone or e-mail. There new number is 01326 567 500, but no land line, a mistake in this location. the warm welcome, was missing, no log fire on a wild Cornish night, the evening meal on the second night was poor and there fore overpriced. The room had a comfortable bed, TV, tiles needing attention in the bathroom and poor tea making facilities. There were obvious tensions amongst the serving staff.

The ocean view from our room (Room 9) was incredible! The staff are wonderful and very friendly. I was really impressed by the quality of the food on offer in both restaurants too.

The recent hotel refurbishment has been done to the highest standards - I loved the bright, airy feel of the public rooms in particular. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have experienced in the UK! Overall, this was a wonderful experience and I would strongly recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to enjoy great accommodation, top-quality food and breathtaking ocean views in fascinating Cornwall.
