When I attempted to book a room using the Travelzoo voucher, I was told there was no weekend availability for the last 3 weeks in September. As the voucher expired on 30 September, and I was going with 2 children who were in school during the week, I eventually spoke to a Manager, Cathy, who advised that the weekends 'were' actually available! She also confirmed that the voucher had already been redeemed by the hotel after my previous contact even though the booking date had not yet arrived.
There was very little flexibility for change, so I finally offered to do 1 night instead of 2, for a 'family' room that could accommodate us. Although the offer was for 2 days breakfast for 2 persons, the booking was marked in capital RED text, 'VOUCHER HAS BEEN UPDATED TO 1 NIGHT IN A FAMILY ROOM WHICH INCLUDES BREAKFAST FOR 3X PEOPLE & 2X DINNERS.' This inflexible, 'nickel and diming' attitude marred my visit even before it started!
The actual experience was awful! I've been to countless hotels and resorts all over the world, this was probably my worst experience. It seems like once you mention you're on a Travelzoo package, you are not treated like regular paying guests. This was my second such experience.
Because we only had one night instead of 2, the time was significantly reduced and although we traveled over 1.5 hours to get there, it was not worth the money or time. The following morning we had to pack up to check out by 12 noon. By the time we got downstairs before 11:00 a.m., we were told that breakfast was over but we could get breakfast if we paid for it but not the breakfast included in the package. The waiter finally proceeded to bring us a huge plate of cold leftovers and said they couldn't heat it. It was a shock that a hotel didn't have the means of warming food. We walked out and left it as we didn't even know where the leftovers were taken from. It was not good value for money and I feel very cheated but there's something to learn from every experience!

Really enjoyed my stay at The Bull. It is an extremely comfortable, cosy, clean hotel in an exceptional city centre location. The food in the restaurant and the bar is very good and the breakfast menu is perfect. All the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient and I would particularly like to mention Jovan and Reuben, breakfast waiting staff for their efficiency and helpfulness and two ladies who were working in the bar on Friday evening, one who came from Wolverhampton and the other young lady with glasses who gave us directions to the river.
