More Reasons to Go

  • Facilities at the hotel include a bar, a restaurant, and a lounge, which serves lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner.
  • The hotel sits in the centre of Peterborough, a short stroll from the ancient cathedral. The cathedral is home to the tomb of Catherine of Aragon, and was also the first resting place of Mary, Queen of Scots.
  • Steam enthusiasts (or fans of "Thomas the Tank Engine") should head to Nene Valley Railway. An active steam railway, and home to the little blue engine from the children's books, it's 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.
  • The city of Cambridge, with its museums, cosy pubs, and impressive university buildings, is a 30-minute drive away.

Travelzoo tip: From July to September, Peterborough Cathedral is hosting a new exhibition, Monsters of the Sea, featuring 16 life-size animatronic sea creatures spanning from prehistoric eras to modern times.

Ambience was great, the hotel was very clean, and most of the staff friendly - they just did not work as a team when serving guests.
Other Comments
Breakfast - the food and the service, both were very poor. There was little organisation/planning, no direction from management, food shortages, and the food you got was cold and either under or overcooked.

Staff were not all that welcoming at check in (the tone was more perfunctory) and the first breakfast, however, through the first day, and the second breakfast, this was much better: the team were friendlier and the office staff more approachable and friendly.

Clean rooms and reception areas.
Other Comments
The room was very dark with a very small window which opened onto a flat roof and facing a wall. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable and the room hot and stuffy. The room had a really horrible smell of B.O. which I suspect was deteriorating plastic and opening the window seemed to make it worse. We had to wait for our room when we arrived as it wasn't ready and then had to witness an argument and a breakdown in communication between front desk and housekeeping. We also had a member of staff on the front desk throw his arms up in exasperation when he thought we couldn't see him because we asked if we could have our bottle filled with water for our journey home. Breakfast staff were also miserable and grumpy and again we had to witness internal bickering. We told on several occasions that the hotel was very short staffed. It really was an uncomfortable place to stay.

We enjoyed our experience overall..A few little issues…Reception staff we found were quite rude and unfriendly..Our room wasn’t ready for check in at 2pm so we left our bags and walked out for some lunch..When we did finally get the keys the toilet hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guest…A nice Hotel tho in a very good location,.

A very nice older style hotel unfortunately the bar was undergoing refurbishment so could not use and a wedding was taking place so the other bar felt a little intrusive to use
Other Comments
The staff were very helpful and considerate we did have a little problem locating the car park due to post codes on sat nab but eventually solved this with post code of different establishment across the road
