The tour will starts in Lima, renowned for its "world-class cuisine" (The Daily Telegraph). Peruvian favourites include ceviche (fresh fish marinated in citrus juices) and chicharrones (confit pork belly). While in Lima, you'll take a half-day tour of the city, covering sights such as elegant colonial Lima Centro, the modern district of Miraflores, and the seaside suburb and artists' quarter, Barranco.
After a cruise around the Ballestas Islands, a group of islets off the western coast of Peru where you may spot seals, sea lions and dolphins, you'll transfer to Nazca, from where you'll fly to Arequipa.
During your stay, you'll visit the historic centre of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the surrounding area -- "a land of snowy volcanoes, high-altitude deserts, thermal hot springs and the world's deepest canyons" (Lonely Planet) -- before continuing to Chivay. This market town is close to Colca Canyon, where you might spot the Andean condor, Peru's national bird during the included excursion.
The final stops will be Puno -- the starting point for a boat ride on the world's largest high-altitude body of water, Lake Titicaca -- and colourful Cusco. You'll explore the city before a transfer to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
