Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Green Dragon Hotel dates from the 11th century. The first incarnation of the inn is said to have housed the stonemasons who built Hereford Cathedral
  • The hotel’s stylish bars and lounges are dedicated to showcasing the best in local Herefordshire food and drink, from vegan wines and vodka, to fruits, artisan cheeses, and handmade scotch eggs. The Garrick Lounge is adorned with classic furnishings and comfy sofas — ideal for afternoon tea — and the trendy Offa Bar has a selection of cocktails and, of course, locally produced ciders on offer
  • Hereford is steeped in history. The cathedral, where you can see a 13th-century Mappa Mundi that is said to be the largest Medieval map of the world in existence, is a 2-minute walk from the hotel
  • If you're a fan of cider, then be sure to pay a visit to the Museum of Cider, which is less than 15 minutes' walk from the hotel. Or for an excursion further afield, explore Belmont Abbey or the 10 acres of Weir Garden, both of which are within 15 minutes' drive
  • There are plenty of impressive walking routes in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the borders of which are approximately 15-minutes’ drive from the hotel
  • Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory

Stayed in a luxury room for two nights, this was fine but a little cold and with poor view over the kitchen back entrance and some noise disruption from the extraction unit. Lovely hotel though and still a great bargain at Travelzoo prices.

The hotel has been refurbished to a good standard (it was a little 'tired' last time we visited some years ago. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. The standard of food was very good - we were joined by another couple for dinner and we all had a very enjoyable evening.

A beautiful and comfortable hotel full of charm and heritage. Excellent idea to be dog friendly.
Other Comments
Staff are helpful although the breakfast staff could be a bit more enthusiastic and interested in the work they do. The breakfast itself (full english) to compare with other hotels was not really anything to shout about. Could do with offering black pudding as an inclusive not an extra for example and the avocado in other places is included when ordering smoked salmon and scramble egg. Breakfast generally was disappointing and we didn't eat the inclusive breakfast on the second day of our stay for this reason. Shame because can't fault the hotel in other ways.

Hardworking staff were brilliant and very helpful and friendly.
Other Comments
It is a large hotel (85 or so rooms) but rather plain dark decor although the reception rooms are more "jolly".
