Overview

Northfield Hotel is an Edwardian property set in two acres of landscaped gardens in the pretty coastal town of Minehead. Situated on the slopes of Northhill, the hotel has views of the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park.

The 14th-century Minehead harbour is less than five minutes' walk from the hotel, and the sandy beach and the high street are less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. Also a 10-minute walk away is Minehead railway station, from where you can take a ride on the West Somerset Railway -- the UK's longest heritage railway -- through the Somerset countryside and along the coast.

The West Somerset Coast Path runs east from Minehead to Steart. The South West Coast Path also begins in Minehead, and leads west into Exmoor National Park, around 20 minutes' walk from the hotel -- you can join both walking routes at the seafront.

The village of Dunster, which has a medieval castle, is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Dunster by Candlelight, a tradition that sees the village lit by candlelight for two evenings, takes place on 6-7 December.

The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, a steam room and a Jacuzzi, which were all refurbished in 2019, and a new gym that opened in May, 2019.

It was perfect in every way. The building and gardens are attractive but it is the quality of the Service which ticked every box of excellence.

The ambience of the place, the old fashioned charm and attention from the staff makes this place a cut above most chain hotels. The choice of food and the quality exceeded most Hotel menus. Nothing was too much trouble; Service with a smile. The location is 5 minute walk from the beach, harbour and @ 8 minute walk to the West Somerset Railway. There is a spa and small pool in the hotel. The water was warm. We were at the hotel ‘out of season’ so we were able to walk down the High Street with no crowds and had the opportunity to visit many of the local shops. We will look forward to staying at the hotel again.

There were issues with the water, had very little pressure therefore took a long time to wash. Floors were creaky and our room was quite old and in need of refurbishment plus it was not the type of room we had booked.

Our family spent a lovely weekend at Northfield Hotel. Myself, mother, brother, sister and partners spent quality time together in memory of our dad who died this year, who would have loved it too. It was a special offer deal and we enjoyed the hotel, friendly staff and the food. Lovely position with views over the sea if your room faced that way. The rooms were good sized but a little tired in the bathroom and could have been a little cleaner in places.
