Gorse Hill hotel was originally built as a country mansion for John Ingram in 1910, but he lost his fortune with the sinking of the Titanic, and was unable to ever make it his home. The property was bombed in World War II, and was later used as a transport training college before being converted into a hotel. It was refurbished in 2017.

Set in the pretty countryside of Surrey less than 10 minutes' drive from Woking, Gorse Hill is surrounded by extensive landscaped gardens. It's a 20 minutes' drive from Guildford, which has a cathedral and a medieval castle. Box Hill and the Devil's Punch Bowl Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are both around a 30-minute drive from the hotel. The 240-acre RHS Garden Wisley is also approximately a 20 minutes' drive away.

The hotel features a well-equipped gym and an à la carte restaurant and bar, which serves fresh dishes and crafted cocktails. The bedrooms are all elegantly furnished to a high standard. You can explore the public areas of the hotel for yourself with the Virtual Venue Tour.

Peaceful location. Lounge area felt cosy but again it was cold. Bar meal (sandwich) was nice.
Other Comments
We were put in the lodge & not in main hotel. Felt like we were the ones with the travel zoo deal so we will stick them across other side of the grounds. Room was freezing cold. Meant walking across car park with coats on to go to breakfast. Breakfast room not set out at all well meaning long queues, badly designed containers for hot food, no seats.... All the buffet was crammed into one corner of room. No extra cutlery. No information on arrival of restaurant for evening meal. Male receptionist had very greasy hair and looked like he'd just got up! Was not a good first impression on arrival.

The reception wasn't so friendly and there were issues with our room but it was a nice enough stay. The grounds were lovely.

Nothing in walking distance. Comfy beds. Very hot room and heating could not be adjusted. Never any water in the gym. Great chap on bar. Restaurant staff not helpful. They could not cope with breakfast. Tables not laid up or cleared. Lots of products run out needed to constantly ask for things.
