Why We Love This Hotel

  • This Grade II-listed property in historic Bury St Edmunds has three AA Silver Stars -- which signify a superior level of quality within their star rating -- and an AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant
  • St Edmundsbury Cathedral and the ruins of the town's medieval abbey are around five minutes' drive away
  • Cambridge and Ipswich are 35 minutes' drive away while Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty -- which was frequently painted by John Constable and is known as Constable County - is less than 45 minutes' drive away

Best Western Priory Hotel occupies a Grade II-listed 18th-century property in the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds.

The property is around five minutes' drive from St Edmundsbury Cathedral and the ruins of the town's medieval abbey. Greene King -- one of the UK's most famous breweries -- hails from Bury St Edmunds, and a great way to discover the town's 1000-year-long brewing history is by following the Bury Ale Trail. The Trail includes The Nutshell, one of the smallest pubs in Britain.

Cambridge and Ipswich are both 35 minutes' drive away from the hotel, while the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around 40 minutes' drive away. The landscape was made famous in paintings by John Constable such as "The Hay Wain", and is known as Constable Country.

This "attractively decorated" and "tastefully furnished" hotel sits within landscaped gardens and has three AA Silver Stars, which signify a superior level of quality, hospitality and service within a star rating. Its Garden Room restaurant has an AA Rosette and the Terrace Bar serves locally brewed Greene King real ales.

Staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for you. Food good. Room good but there were different levels due to age of property. Some of the stairs were difficult. HoweverC there are ground floor rooms.
