Why We Love This Hotel

  • Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa Hotel has a wealth of accolades, including Best Luxury Hotel & Spa 2018 in the Irish Enterprise Awards
  • The AA awards Jacks Bar & Restaurant a Rosette for its "generous cooking and quality ingredients"
  • There's plenty to do on site: you can relax in the Rock Crystal Spa with its 17-metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, break a sweat in the gym, or take the kids to the indoor children's play area

Ballyliffin Lodge, in the quaint village of Ballyliffin, is a great location from which to explore the Inishowen Peninsula. Ballyliffin Lodge has stunning views of nearby Binion Hill, Crockaughrim Hill and Pollan Bay, which is a 15-minute walk from the hotel and has a 2-mile-long sandy beach.

Less than a mile from the hotel you'll find the famous Ballyliffin Golf Club, which hosted the Irish Open in 2018. You can go pony trekking at Tullagh Bay, surfing in Pollan Bay, or head up to the island of Ireland's northernmost point, Malin Head -- just a 30-minute drive away -- from where you can sometimes see the Northern Lights.

The hotel is a luxurious family-run destination, praised by The AA for its "well-judged hospitality". Jacks Bar & Restaurant has an AA Rosette and is listed in The Michelin Guide 2019. Dine outside on Jacks Terrace and Patio, which has infrared heaters, for gorgeous views of Pollan Bay and Malin Head. Ballyliffin Lodge is also home to the Lodge Leisure Club -- winner of the White Flag Award for meeting national quality standards -- which has a 17-metre indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, a Jacuzzi and more. Roam the candle-lit corridors of the hotel's Rock Crystal Spa, which offers a range of facials, wraps, scrubs and massages (supplements apply for spa treatments).

Rooms have free Wi-Fi and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Some also feature panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

We had a lovely time this week. The hotel was very quiet, which deflates the atmosphere, although it was good value for money, we were able to enjoy the local walks, however anyone unable to do this, would have very little to do in the area. Id suggest a free main course meal to bring people to the hotel.
Other Comments
Broaden your free be's to attract more people to the hotel and spa, which would make for a better atmosphere. The restaurant and bar was dead. and there being no bars or restaurants in the immediate area.

Other Comments
I didn't enjoy the bar food.
