Why We Love This Hotel

  • Higher Trapp Hotel has lovely views of the surrounding countryside from its elevated position within four acres of terraced gardens in the Pendle Valley.
  • The hotel has a conservatory and a terrace where you can unwind with a drink at the end of a day's sightseeing. The floor-to-ceiling windows in Fitzy's Bar & Restaurant make the most of the pastoral views.
  • The location is excellent for walkers. Hike the Pendle Way footpath, beginning in Barley, which is less than 15 minutes' drive away. Discover landscapes ranging from moorland to meadow, and visit villages and hamlets associated with the 17th-century Pendle Witch trials, along the way.
  • Follow the 5.5-mile Tolkien Trail, starting at Hurst Green (around 25 minutes' walk from the hotel). This circular route through the Ribble Valley passes through landscapes that inspired the author while writing The Lord of the Rings.
  • Gawthorpe Hall, an Elizabethan country house and National Trust property, is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Stroll through the gardens, which have views over the River Calder and visit the Gawthorpe Textile Collection.
