Overview

The historic building that once housed San Diego Trust & Savings Bank is now home to Courtyard Marriott San Diego Downtown. While it has retained some of its historic look and feel, particularly on the exterior, the rooms and public spaces on the interior are a combination of modern and 1920s details. An area of the hotel called THE LOBBY, which recently underwent a renovation, is an ideal location for meeting a client for a business meeting or having dinner and cocktails during a vacation. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and specializes in savory California cuisine.

A stay in the Gaslamp Quarter puts guests near many desirable attractions such as Balboa Park -- home to the San Diego Museum of Art and Air & Space Museum. If the beach beckons, popular sports like Coronado Island are less than a 20-minute drive. In the morning, walk to the nearest coffee shop, and then head to the marina to tour the USS Midway Museum.

After a day touring the city and hitting all the hot spots in the Gaslamp Quarter, relax in a guest room with conveniences such as a mini-fridge, microwave and complimentary Wi-Fi access.

From the press:
  • “Guests here get to walk back in time while enjoying the modern comforts. The rooms and suites have been renovated in mauves, whites and purples that lend a modern feel, and the views of the city and bay light up rooms as well” -- Gayot
  • “Spacious rooms occupy the former offices [of the bank building], connected by hallways of vintage marble” -- Lonely Planet

A bit of bitter sweet. Checked in and went to room. Room was fabulous! 8th floor, great views, smelt super great, executive suite with a king bed and couch only we were a party of 4 so I called front desk to ask for a room with 2 beds. Front desk was super friendly and told me there was no problem and had me come down to change rooms. Picked up new room keys and went to new room. Room was on 4th floor, had 2 beds like requested and similar view only the room was smaller and didn't smell as pleasant as first. This is when I realized the first room was much better and only wished I would have kept it which was my own mistake. Overall I would recommend this hotel to friends and would considerate it again for another stay.

Very nice hotel close to (or within reasonable walking distance) many places of interest.

Hotel provides a tour of the building. Our guide, Ruben, provided interesting tidbits about the building and the history when it was a bank and trust. Very interesting history and the view from the cupola was great.

The location was perfect for taking in a game at Petco and a visit to the zoo. The building itself was beautiful - a registered historical building that has been maintained to its original glory.
