Why We Love This Hotel

  • This stately Edwardian hotel is said to have been built for Edward VII's mistress, Lillie Langtry
  • It has a wood-panelled lounge with stained-glass windows and an opulent bar with theatre-inspired design
  • Hyde Park is less than five minutes' walk away

Overview

Grand Royale London Hyde Park offers "sumptuous Edwardian elegance" (The AA) within easy reach of many major London attractions. Set on a tree-lined street, the hotel occupies an imposing building with an ornate stone façade, and is rumoured to have been built on behalf of Edward VII for his mistress, the actress and socialite Lillie Langtry. The Diana Memorial Playground is five minutes' walk away, while two of London’s most fashionable areas, Notting Hill Gate and Kensington High Street, are 10 to 15 minutes' walk away. Kensington Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and the Science Museum all take around 20 minutes to reach on foot, while Oxford Street, Regent Street and Soho are around 10 minutes away by Tube.

The lavish interios include a lobby lounge with leather sofas, wood-panelled walls, stained-glass windows and a marble fireplace. There's a refined dining room where breakfast is served, and the theatre-inspired bar has a proscenium arch, period auditorium seats and mirrored walls. A chocolate afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco for two, is now £24.

Rooms are modern in design, with a soft neutral colour scheme and wood furnishings. Each room has free Wi-Fi, a TV, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Higher-tariff rooms add slippers, fruit baskets and access to an exclusive lounge. There's also a suite named after Lillie Langtry, which comes has a 4-poster bed, antique-style furnishings and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub.

Location , breakfast and bath in room

Enjoyed Most
Staff and breakfast were excellent.
Other Comments
The room was supposed to be deluxe but it was extremely small and tired. The bath was chipped, wall light hanging from the wall. The duvet cover was very lumpy and the pillows extremely hard, so it was hard to get to sleep. However the staff and breakfast were excellent.

The History and Grandeur of the Hotel, most impressive
Other Comments
Althought the quality of the room was good we felt it was a little small, the front desk even said we were upgraded to a Club room ! so not sure what a Deluxe would look like !

The ambience in the reception lounge area was lovely and the breakfast was nice.
Other Comments
There was no fruit in the room as advertised. The room was very warm even though turned off the heating and no windows to open to help cool. The bathroom was extremely small with hardly any room to sit on the toilet and a larger person would struggle in the shower.

Other Comments
It was very humid and hot in the rooms and we could not turn on the air conditioning since the hotel was only set up for heating at the time we stayed. It was quite uncomfortable but the hotel did give us a fan to circulate the air in the room.

The super location in a quiet area across from the park and steps from Tube and bus stop are second only to the beautiful hotel lobby and excellent breakfast. Room was a little small but perfectly appointed. Enjoyed the welcome water & fresh fruit, as well as biscuits and tea and coffee in the room. Clean and comfortable.
