"Lovely hotel. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Great location - nice walk into Emsworth along the waterfront. Decor was a little dated around the hotel but room was a decent size and comfortable. Food was pretty good. Overall would recommend!"

Overview

Brookfield House is a family-run property on the edge of the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and less than five minutes' drive from Emsworth Harbour, from where you can follow the Sussex Border Path around Thorney Island.

West Wittering, around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel, is on the eastern side of Chichester Harbour and has a Blue Flag sandy beach lined with pastel-coloured huts. Less than five minutes' drive from there is East Head, a National Trust area with sand dunes and salt marshes.

The bustling city of Chichester, known for its 900-year-old cathedral, is 15 minutes' drive from the hotel, while Portsmouth, with its rich maritime history, is around 20 minutes' drive away. You can visit Portsmouth Historic Dockyard -- where you'll find the National Museum of the Royal Navy and the Mary Rose Museum, which is dedicated to Henry VIII's famous warship -- or the 170-metre-tall Emirates Spinnaker Tower, which has panoramic views of the Isle of Wight and the south coast.

We've negotiated an annual pass for one adult to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, for £23.40.

The hotel has a restaurant, a bar and a garden. Wi-Fi is free.

The staff were friendly. It was warm and comfortable and it was in a reasonably good situation but I'm afraid its not a place to rave about and recommend to our friends.

The food! Nearly everything on the menu's included a supplement. I have never seen a £2.50 supplement for kippers or haddock at breakfast or £3 for a muffin with smoked salmon. |Considering our offer included £25 per person for dinner, it was extremely d ifficult to have a 3 course meal for that. The soup of the day (cheapest on the menu) was a vegetable soup - it could easily have come out of a tin and there was very little on the mains that we fancied and by chosing a fish n chips and a burger and chips, we were able to share an icecream making up £60 for the two of us for dinner. I would'nt have minded except for the fact that the fish was close to vile and my husband's burger was actually quite tough and chewy! Also, on our first day of arrival, as it was nearly 3 and we were going into Chichester for the theatre we thought we would order the £16.50 a head afternoon tea, instead of lunch and dinner. It was a very sad tea, a few sandwiches, two scones each and some very dreary cakes, not value for money. Also, I am sorry to say, the service was lousy and we were not asked if we wanted anything else or more tea. Eventually, after about 40 minutes we saw the waiter who finally asked if we would like more tea. Disappointing.

Lovely hotel, easy to find. Staff all friendly and helpful. Nice food but a limited menu, soup and fish of the day did not change. TV in the lounge was not working.
