The attractions of the “perennially popular” (Lonely Planet) Costa del Sol are within easy reach of Los Amigos Beach Club, which offers relaxed self-catering accommodation and a range of leisure facilities.
The modern resort occupies an Andalusian village-style complex in landscaped gardens on the Mijas Costa coastal strip, a 10-minute drive from lively Fuengirola and around 15 minutes’ drive from the “pretty, whitewashed” (Fodor’s) town of Mijas. Marbella’s swanky centre is a 20-minute drive away, “friendly, noisy, fiesta-loving” (Frommer’s) Malaga is approximately 35 minutes’ drive away and Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, home to the rare pinsapo fir and many large caves, is about 90 minutes away by car.
Los Amigos Beach Club features a lobby lounge, decorated with bright murals, which offers computer terminals and a library of books and DVDs. The leafy, palm tree-lined grounds house both indoor and outdoor pools (with separate kids’ areas), a hot tub and tennis courts, as well as a fitness room, a play area, and games including pool, table tennis and mini golf (fees may apply). Guests can dine on international fare at the restaurant, sip cocktails at the poolside bar and stock up on groceries in the on-site shop.
Sleeping up to six people, the modern studios and 1- or 2-bedroom apartments have a simple design in warm earth tones with wood furnishings. All units include free Wi-Fi and kitchens (some with dishwashers), as well as TVs, iPod docks and living space with sofabeds. Apartments come with DVD players and balconies, with higher-tariff apartments adding hot tubs.
