Why We Love This Hotel

  • This Victorian-era guesthouse is a few minutes' walk from Windermere town centre and 15 minutes' walk from the lake
  • Blackwell House, "a glorious example of the Arts & Crafts movement" (Lonely Planet), is a 10-minute drive away
  • There's a cosy guest lounge and a conservatory for breakfast

Overview

The Ravensworth is an adult-only guesthouse occupying an "elegant" (Frommer's) Lakeland-stone building on a tree-lined road near Windermere town centre. Set on a tree-lined road, The Ravensworth occupies "an elegant, Lakeland stone building" (Frommer's), dating from the 1850s. It is five minutes' drive, or a 15-minute walk, from the shores of Windermere, "the queen of Lake district lakes" (Lonely Planet).

The World of Beatrix Potter, with its 3D depictions of the author's work, is a 5-minute drive away, while you can walk to the summit of Orrest Head in around 30 minutes for views along the lake. Blackwell, a landmark Arts and Crafts house, is about 10 minutes' drive away, and Ullswater, with its lake cruises, takes 30 minutes to reach by car.

There's a bright, homely feel to the The Ravensworth's interiors, which include a guest lounge with leather sofas and a library stocked with local walking guides. Guests can start the day with a buffet breakfast in the conservatory, which is lined with exposed stone, and relax with a drink on the terrace.

The 11 "charming" (Frommer's) bedrooms feature warm décor in neutral tones with wood furnishings and patterned fabrics. All come with free Wi-Fi, TVs, DVD players and iPod docks, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities.

From the first greeting from Martin to the time we left we liked everything. We wanted a quiet break so to be in a clean friendly place was a bonus. Eateries were just a short walk away. Slept well as it was very quiet.

The oeace and quiet. Being just 5 minutes walk from Windermere Station, the hotel was convenient but out of the main town.
Other Comments
This was a quiet guest house, with convenient access to the facilities in Windermere, hence there is no evening meal offered at the venue. The breakfast was continental with hot options which were cooked to order. They were very tasty and well cooked. A full english breakfast is not available, We paid extra for a 'standard king' room. The bed was very comfortable. The complimentary items and linen provided were of good quality. I would definitely return to this hotel in the future if I was visiting the area.
