Overview

Set on a tree-lined road, The Ravensworth occupies "an elegant, Lakeland stone building" (Frommer's), dating from the 1850s. It is five minutes' drive, or a 15-minute walk, from the shores of Windermere, "the queen of Lake District lakes" (Lonely Planet).

The World of Beatrix Potter, with its 3D depictions of the author's work, is a 5-minute drive away, while you can walk to the summit of Orrest Head in around 30 minutes for views along the lake. Blackwell, a landmark Arts and Crafts house, is about 10 minutes' drive away, and Ullswater, with its lake cruises, takes 30 minutes to reach by car.

The Ravensworth has bright, homely interiors, which include a guest lounge with leather sofas and a library stocked with local walking guides. Guests can start the day with a buffet breakfast in the conservatory (served from 8:15-9:30am), which is lined with exposed stone, and relax with a drink on the terrace after a day of hiking or sightseeing.

The 11 "charming" (Frommer's) bedrooms feature warm décor in neutral tones with wood furnishings and patterned fabrics. All come with free Wi-Fi, TVs, DVD players and iPod docks, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities.

Welcomed by the owner and shown to our room. Everything was explained to us. Even given ideas for local walks. Great staff and a good breakfast, with some unusual dishes on the menu.

Nice location central to the town, room quite small but it had nice touches which some hotels don't have, will stay again but upgrade if available.

Pleasant hotel but we were allocated a box room on the second floor (even though we had booked 2 extra nights). Never saw the owner or anyone behind the desk after we had checked in!

Beautifully clean and well presented. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice absolute bargain for such a convenient location near to high street and a good trek to the cruisers and lake Windermere. Much enjoyed.

Everything was good from staff being very friendly, room was good and spacious except wardrobe was a bit tight but for a two night stay ok
Other Comments
Breakfast was excellent and really well cooked we also got afternoon tea which was ok and suited us as it was available on our arrival which fitted in after a long drive. But the bread used for the afternoon tea and the breakfast could have been better it was fresh but basic sliced loaf. I think it would improve both tea and breakfast if it was better quality.
