  • Walking routes from the hotel lead to Scafell Pike, which is "on every self-respecting hiker's bucket list" (Lonely Planet)

  • The hotel's wood-panelled restaurant has views of the fells

Low Wood Hall is a traditional country house hotel within the "beautiful" Lake District National Park, known for its "mountains, wildlife, flora, fauna, and secluded waterfalls" (Frommer's). It's set in five acres of wooded grounds with panoramic views across the Wasdale Valley.

The hotel occupies a grand Victorian property with an annex, and is around five minutes' drive from the shores of Wast Water, and a 15-minute drive from walking routes to Lingmell and Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, "one of Cumbria's most beloved family attractions" (Lonely Planet), and Muncaster Castle -- with its gardens, bluebell wood and birds of prey -- are both about 20 minutes' drive away.

Low Wood Hall has a wood-panelled bar featuring a fireplace, richly patterned drapes and floor-to-ceiling windows offering great views of the countryside. Guests can "savour the fells without leaving the table" (Condé Nast Traveller) in the hotel's restaurant and relax on the stately stone terrace area.

Rooms are individually decorated in neutral tones with wood furnishings, while some have original features such as wooden beams and fireplaces, and some have views of the fells. Standard Double rooms are located in the annex.
