Why We Love It

  • Described as "historic" by The AA, The Brigands Inn dates from the 15th century
  • The property is on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, surrounded by the Dyfi Valley
  • Interiors are "full of character" (The AA), with wood beams and open fireplaces

Surrounded by the "beautiful" (The AA) Dyfi Valley countryside on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, The Brigands Inn offers rustic-style accommodation and seasonal dining in a historic setting.

This "splendid" (The AA) property, with a whitewashed half-timbered façade, occupies a former coaching inn dating from the 15th century, and is within easy reach of walking trails and wildlife watching opportunities.

It's a 20-minute drive from King Arthur's Labyrinth, an underground boat ride and walking tour through caves and tunnels, and within 30 minutes' drive of Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway and Barmouth -- a "full-fledged seaside resort" with "a 2-mile-long-promenade and wide expanses of golden beach" (Fodor's). The "sumptuous" Powis Castle and its "exquisite terraced gardens" (Rough Guides) take around 45 minutes to reach by car.

Beams, open fireplaces and "stylish" (The AA) decor characterise The Brigands Inn's cosy interiors. The restaurant serves seasonal dishes made using local produce. Dogs are welcome, with specially brewed canine beer also available.

The nine rooms are individually decorated and feature solid oak furnishings, exposed wood beams and Egyptian cotton bedding. Most rooms have a shower over the bath. Some rooms have 4-poster beds and countryside views. Wi-Fi is free.

We loved this place. The Staff were extremely warm and welcoming. We ate on the afternoon of arrival and on both evenings of or stay....and the food was amazing. The breakfasts were equally as good ...well worth it.

We stayed on a Travelzoo deal.... we couldn't fault the place. The room we had had was lovely and cosy, clean and tidy...with a lovely view across the welsh countryside and the mountains beyond.

Remote location, but on a roundabout! Great if you are a walker, but otherwise a car essential. Food delicious, but not cheap! Inclusive breakfast choices impressive and unusual.
