The Savoy Saccharum Resort and Spa is a 5-star hotel built on the site of an old sugar cane mill. The Daily Telegraph says the hotel is a "sleek" and "stylishly designed, contemporary resort".
The picturesque village of Jardim Do Mar (garden of the sea), is around 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. The village is known for its charming atmosphere, reminiscent of Madeira in days gone by. Spend some time wandering along its narrow streets, which are blooming with tropical flowers and fruits.
Funchal, Madeira's capital, is 40 minutes' drive away. We recommend riding a wicker toboggan sledge down the steep, winding streets of the Monte neighbourhood, or taking a cable car across the city for incredible views of its pretty red-roofed houses tumbling down to the harbour.
Facilities include a fitness centre, squash courts, a games room and three swimming pools, including an infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic and a children's pool. The sandy Calheta beach is less than five minutes' walk away.
You can dine at the à la carte restaurant or buffet restaurant. There are five bars at the hotel, including one on the beachfront.
Each room has the design of a local artist, based on the theme of the sugar cane.There is free Wi-Fi and some rooms have sea views.
