Why We Love This Hotel

  • This sea-view hotel is within 10 minutes' walk of Bude's beaches and The Castle Bude
  • Its funky interiors feature vintage motorbikes and British-themed murals
  • There's an on-site restaurant and a bar with a patio

"Nice hotel and a bit quirky which I liked. Visiting in December was probably not the best idea as the weather was poor and the town a bit dead. There isn't a single decent pub in the entire town apart from the wine bar (which is excellent) and the Beach Hotel bar which non residents can access. The restaurant there is very good as well."

An Mor offers quirky, stylish accommodation in the centre of Bude, "a breezy seaside town with a bevy of impressive beaches" (Lonely Planet).

The hotel has views of the Atlantic Ocean, and is a few minutes' walk from sandy Summerleaze Beach, where attractions include a play area, a café and a natural saltwater pool, and about a 10-minute walk from The Castle Bude, the former home of Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, inventor of the steam carriage.

Compass Point, a 19th-century lookout tower, is 20 minutes' walk away, while the ancient market town of Stratton takes about 10 minutes to reach by car. Georgian-era Pencarrow House and Gardens is around a 50-minute drive from the hotel.

An Mor's interiors feature funky lighting, colourful British-inspired murals and retro furniture, from plush leather sofas to vintage motorbikes and fairground memorabilia. It has a restaurant and a bar with a beach view, and gin-making classes are offered at its on-site distillery.

The gin distillery tour is a walk-through of the process that goes into making An Mor gin. During the half-hour session, you'll have the opportunity to understand the various gins and how they pair with different tonics. You finish the tour with your very own An Mor gin and tonic.

Bedrooms are decorated in a simple, contemporary style with neutral tones, wood furnishings and Union Jack-themed cushions. Guestrooms have views of the countryside or the sea -- Superior Rooms are more spacious than Standard Rooms and have the best views.

Only issue was that on Sunday night of stay the restuarant not open & as alot of the resorts eateries are closed during the winter it is an issue. Fortunately the Bredon Arms do food.

It’s a quirky hotel with unusual decor. Our room was small but clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. It’s ideally situated near the town and the beach. I would recommend it.

The stay was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only criticism was that we were not told that meals would not be served in the evening from the beginning of December when we booked. We had planned to eat in the hotel in the evening each night as we had done previously.

The location is excellent. The gin tour is very informative and a very different experience from those offered in other venues.

Temperature in room on arrival only 15c. No heating instructions. Very slow to warm...several hours to reach 18c. Heated towel rail in bathroom not working. Asked at reception for help but told there should be a switch somewhere close by... Couldn't get it to work and gave up. Walls between rooms very thin.... no need for further explanation! Gin experience was overbooked and the bar area couldn't accommodate all the guests who had signed up for the talk. We gave up and sat in the lounge area. Food in restaurant was OK but average. Breakfast - fresh fruit, butter and juice had all run out by 9.15. No staff in sight for at least 15 minutes. Not their fault as it seemed only 2 staff were attempting to serve cooked breakfast orders and restock. Really disappointed as the hotel had a lot of promise that just didn't quite happen.

Had a lovely couple of days at An Mor. Its a really quirky place but good for visiting Bude and the surrounding area. We had a lovely room with good views but it was a bit cold in the room when we first arrived as the electric heating wasn't on and it took a while to heat up. The cooked breakfast was very good and it made such a difference being freshly cooked. The coffee machine struggled to cope with demand and would have been good to have had 2 on the go as there always seemed to be a queue. We ate in the restaurant one night. Again the food was very good but we both felt the restaurant was very brightly lit and could have done with a bit of background music to make it feel more cosy and welcoming. Hearing the bingo from the adjoining room was a bit off putting !!!! We would love to come back and visit Bude again and would have no hesitation in booking at An Mor.
