"On first morning reception rang to ask when we were leaving. We were booked in go two days. They did not have our paid reservation for dinner but could eat at 6.15 only. A message for us left at reception was not given to us but they rang me about it in York. Too late. Eggs were hard at breakfast. Only one knife supplied at breakfast. No napkins provided at dinner."

Overview

The Lincoln Hotel, a refurbished 1960s property next to Lincoln Cathedral, is a great base from which to explore the medieval city. The hotel is close to the Westgate Water Tower, The County Assembly Rooms, the Priory Arch and the Medieval Bishops' Palace.

Lincoln Castle, a Norman castle constructed in the late 11th century by William the Conqueror, is five minutes' walk away. The Collection Usher Gallery, which houses an eclectic range of works by famous artists, decorative arts and timepieces, and the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, which celebrates the culture of Lincolnshire and its people from 1750 to the present day, are both within 15 minutes' walk away.

Doddington Hall and Gardens is 20 minutes' drive away and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is 40 minutes away.

The hotel's AA-Rosette Green Room restaurant combines traditional flavours with a contemporary twist and sources local ingredients. "The Green Room has a striking, design-led interior, with candles and fresh flowers adding a homely touch", says The AA, which also praises the hotel's "superb uninterrupted views of Lincoln Cathedral".

You can relax in the lounge with a coffee and a cake or have a pre-dinner aperitif in Bar 67, which has retro déco -- its name is an ode to the spirit of 1967, when Jimi Hendrix played a sold-out gig at Lincoln's ABC Cinema.

Rooms are decorated with modern designs and all come with Wi-Fi and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Superior Rooms have views of Lincoln Cathedral or garden views, and some have a private patio.

Refurbishment going on in and around hotel. If you are unlucky enough to be next to or underneath a bathroom refurbishment, goodness you will certainly hear it! / Breakfast foods ran out and basic items like bread, cereal and eggs had to be chased up, making breakfast sometimes a frustrating experience. Just put more out.

I am slightly disabled so it was really good to find ourselves on the ground floor with a sloped entrance available although NOT obvious. We overlooked the Cathedral which was beautiful and NO bells throughout the night! Breakfast was perfect but the very sparse choice for vegetarians over dinner was disappointing I had to have two "starters" for one of my meals.

Not so much the hotel but Lincoln itself IF you use a wheelchair or scooter be aware the pavements in Lincoln are not very find many bumps and loose paving slabs BUT some lovely cafés, castle and cathedral.

This is a good hotel and well placed our room was on the small side at the back and could be noisy . The food was very good and the Green room was equally top end although the menu was a little fussy.

Location is everything at this hotel. It's right next to the cathedral and the castle and historic streets and shops are only a few minutes walk away. Quite some hike down into the centre of the city but that didn't bother us as it was the historic bit we came to see.

Very nice food in the Green Room restaurant. Lovely room - a superior with a view right onto the cathedral. Can't fault it really.

On the whole an enjoyable stay, however breakfast was a bit chaotic. Had to wait for certain items, and then having to sit surrounded by tables with used dishes littering the place wasn’t the best feeling.
