The hotel is 15 minutes' walk from the village of Marston, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book. You can walk the Beanholme or Witham trails, which start at the village hall and vary between 2-5 miles in length.

The hotel is less than 10 minutes' drive from the Grantham Canal, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The reed beds are home to rare bird species including the sedge warbler, reed warbler and reed bunting, and the towpath has been rebuilt as a walking and cycling route.

Easton Walled Gardens, Lincolnshire's own lost garden that's home to snowdrops, sweet peas, roses and meadows, is 15 minutes' drive away.

Newark-on-Trent is around 20 minutes' drive away. Here you can explore the Georgian market square or Newark Castle and Gardens, home to dungeons, Victorian gardens and an exhibition about King John.

Sconce and Devon Park, with woodland walks, a nature reserve and a 17th-century Civil War earthwork fortification, and Newark Air Museum are both less than 20 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's restaurant showcases original period features and has wrought ironwork and beams. Menus change daily and include seasonal ingredients. There is a stylish and contemporary bar that serves local beers and traditional hearty dishes.

Other facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a hot tub and a steam room. There is also a gym and a solarium, and beauty treatments are available (supplements apply; pre-booking advised).

Rooms are in modern wings that adjoin, and have indoor access to, the original barn.

The lady on reception when we left was lovely, sorry i didn't catch her name otherwise I would of mentioned her. All in all the staff were all very pleasant. Had two meals in the hotel and they were both enjoyable. They had a prom night for a local school on our second evening, however the staff kept the party away from guests so it wasn't as noisy as i would of expected.

Hotel is desperately in need of refurbishing as it looks like it has been untouched since the 80s.

A bit in the middle of nowhere. Mainly older people but good there were no kids. Pool excellent but changing rooms could do with spinner to get rid of water in costume and some shampoo/ shower gel in shower. Or at least information to take your own.

Easy to book through Travelzoo, very good rooms and leisure facilities, food exellent in both resturaunt and bar, the hotel is a little secluded and there is nowhere in easy walking distance, other than that had a great time and would visit again.

They made us feel so welcome and asked us our accommodation needs as my wife is disabled.

Being mostly flat my wife was able to go around on her own with her scooter. The swimming facility was great for us too. I would recommend this to anyone.
