The hotel is 15 minutes' walk from the village of Marston, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book. You can walk the Beanholme or Witham trails, which start at the village hall and vary between 2-5 miles in length.

The hotel is less than 10 minutes' drive from the Grantham Canal, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The reed beds are home to rare bird species including the sedge warbler, reed warbler and reed bunting, and the towpath has been rebuilt as a walking and cycling route.

Easton Walled Gardens, Lincolnshire's own lost garden that's home to snowdrops, sweet peas, roses and meadows, is 15 minutes' drive away.

Newark-on-Trent is around 20 minutes' drive away. Here you can explore the Georgian market square or Newark Castle and Gardens, home to dungeons, Victorian gardens and an exhibition about King John.

Sconce and Devon Park, with woodland walks, a nature reserve and a 17th-century Civil War earthwork fortification, and Newark Air Museum are both less than 20 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's restaurant showcases original period features and has wrought ironwork and beams. Menus change daily and include seasonal ingredients. There is a stylish and contemporary bar that serves local beers and traditional hearty dishes.

Other facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a hot tub and a steam room. There is also a gym and a solarium, and beauty treatments are available (supplements apply; pre-booking advised).

Rooms are in modern wings that adjoin, and have indoor access to, the original barn.

The superior room was amazing with two sinks, walk in shower, bath, 8" bed and 40" tv on the wall - the best room we have ever stayed in.

A waitress called Jane in the restaurant suggested where we could go on our whole day there, we went to Stamford, Rutland water and Melton Mowbray, all thoroughly enjoyable towns to visit. Everything about the hotel was easy going, all spotlessly clean, restaurant food was very enjoyable and the swimming pool was a lovely bonus. We have done a number of Travelzoo hotels, in fact this is our third this year and we have another in May, and without doubt the best accommodation and value for money!!
