Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Crown Hotel dates from the 18th century and is one of the oldest in Harrogate. Famous guests include the composer Sir Edward Elgar and poet Lord Byron, who penned "To A Beautiful Quaker" after being inspired by a local woman passing the hotel.
  • The Daily Telegraph says "the hotel is an ensemble of inky blues, gold, greys and reds, speckled with chandeliers" and is "befitting the regal theme". Original stained-glass windows feature in its "impressive" ballroom, named the Churchill Suite, in which breakfast is served.
  • The hotel is part of Harrogate's fashionable and boutique-laden Montpellier Quarter, in the town centre.
  • The Crown is right next to the Royal Pump Room Museum (the Old Sulphur Well), Turkish Baths, and the sprawling Valley Gardens.
  • Harrogate's famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms are a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
  • The boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales National Park are less than 20 minutes' drive from the hotel.
  • Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory.

Limited car parking is available at £12 per night.

It was exactly what we wanted - central Harrogate, friendly and helpful staff. We've been before and we'll go again
Other Comments
Cooked breakfast items were a bit poor - cheap collar bacon, hard lumps of scrambled egg, etc, but decent bread for toast, nice yoghurt, honey and fruit

The staff was very pleasant and helpful, problem with the water was quickly sorted out. The room was a good size very clean, the beds where comfortable,. Been at the back it was very quiet but I do prefer the room s at the front with the view of the green. The food was okay in the bar area, there was a good selection at breakfast, will stay again.

The lovely receptionists. Nice location.
Other Comments
Old tired hotel. Rooms dated, beds uncomfortable, pillows lumpy. We were at the rear opposite the kitchen extractor which came on at 05.35 one morning and went off around 23:00. This was a daily occurrence. The breakfast was not very nice, it looked and tasted cheap. The bread was awful. Left towels in the bath on day two to be changed, they were still there at six in the evening.
