Why We Love This Hotel
- The Crown Hotel dates from the 18th century and is one of the oldest in Harrogate. Famous guests include the composer Sir Edward Elgar and poet Lord Byron, who penned "To A Beautiful Quaker" after being inspired by a local woman passing the hotel.
- The Daily Telegraph says "the hotel is an ensemble of inky blues, gold, greys and reds, speckled with chandeliers" and is "befitting the regal theme". Original stained-glass windows feature in its "impressive" ballroom, named the Churchill Suite, in which breakfast is served.

The staff was very pleasant and helpful, problem with the water was quickly sorted out. The room was a good size very clean, the beds where comfortable,. Been at the back it was very quiet but I do prefer the room s at the front with the view of the green. The food was okay in the bar area, there was a good selection at breakfast, will stay again.

Old tired hotel. Rooms dated, beds uncomfortable, pillows lumpy. We were at the rear opposite the kitchen extractor which came on at 05.35 one morning and went off around 23:00. This was a daily occurrence. The breakfast was not very nice, it looked and tasted cheap. The bread was awful. Left towels in the bath on day two to be changed, they were still there at six in the evening.

We were unable to sleep properly as the people above us were very noisy and the floors were very squeaky. The view from our window was absolutely disgusting and one of them wouldn't stay open. I have photos if you want to see. The TV had lots of interference also.

Comfortable overnight stay in a clean and spacious room. Buffet breakfast was very nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There is limited hotel parking, but a reasonable number of parking spaces adjacent to the hotel that won't break the bank. The hotel is very well situated to explore the town. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Dear Crown Hotel - when you charge guests with a dog £15 per night stay we know that the charge is swallowed up and doesn't go to the cleaner and we know that no deep cleaning in case the next guests are allergic takes place. However when your guests are paying an extra £45 over three nights for the privilege of bringing their dog give some thought to where their room should be located. DO NOT put them in a room with other guests walking past in the middle of the night along a corridor with squeaky floors. Otherwise the dog will bark and disturb everyone's sleep. For the £45 please pop your doggy guests in a room at the end of a corridor where nobody will walk past and then everyone can get a peaceful night's sleep.
Not too keen on your Hunger Games style card from the cleaners asking for a five star review. These are your lowest paid and most vulnerable employees - do not ask us to rate them - or consider asking us to rate your management or shareholders and have them beg for star ratings.

we enjoyed our stay at the Crown Hotel. The room was spacious, clean, bright and airy. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. Plenty of tea/coffee facilities on offer. Good TV reception. The staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. The breakfast buffet was good, with plenty of choice on offer, from cold to hot cooked food. We thoroughly recommend The Crown Hotel for a comfortable stay.

Abysmal breakfasts. No decaf coffee, cardboard bacon, no mushrooms, fried left over potatoes. No orange ìjuice, no granola on last day. Very temperamental toaster. Either no colour or charcoal and totally tasteless. Liquid marmalade and apricot jam only available first morning. Bedroom nice and great location.

This deal is good value for money. However this hotel is very short on staff at the moment. The staff that are there are friendly and helpful. The breakfast room is so understaffed. We enjoyed a pleasant meal in the Churchill restaurant on one evening. The bar was closed so we had to use the Brasserie but again no staff. The parking is payable nightly which is fine but even when I put a reserved sign with my name on it someone took my place.. We had a lovely big room but with lack of staff your room may not be cleaned until 4pm.

Very limited parking and when I reversed trying to straight up my car another car very fast drove in and took my space!! Even with my husband giving me directions. She nearly run over him!! Then she got out of her car and start arguing with me. We’ll, she was running late to work and straight to the reception desk!. I tried to report her but nobody will listen. The room was very small and horrible gas smell. We had to sleep with the windows open and heater on.

The only irritation was having to queue for over 15 minutes to check in. One chap was taking up the receptionist’s time with endless queries whilst we just stood there. The hotel should have acknowledged this and provided more staff. Otherwise the stay was good

I left my phone charging cable in the room, plugged into the kettle socket, and despite phoning the hotel immediately, they say it has not been found. I phoned twice and feel they have not investigated enough or asked the staff who cleaned the room. Very disappointing.

The hotel is in a perfect location to explore Harrogate and we were fortunate to get a place in the car park. Our room was small but adequate for one night. The room and bathroom were clean. Our breakfast experience was disappointing. We went towards the end of service but so did many other guests. The staff were not prepared for such an influx. There were no teaspoons at the drinks area. We waited 5 minutes for yoghurt then waited for scrambled eggs. The toaster involved a long queue. The table was wobbly, so we moved when another became free. The food, when we got it was acceptable.

The hotel and our room was very clean and the beds were comfortable , however it looked tired, and the noise from an industrial boiler all night was quite numbing! Having everything painted beige is certainly inoffensive but a touch of colour and maybe prints on the walls would make a huge difference. The staff are the highlight of this hotel. Friendly, courteous and professional - a real credit. Certainly booked through Travelzoo this hotel room was great value for a city centre hotel. AVOID breakfast.....the kitchen must be a long long way from the restaurant as all 'hot' food was cold and congealed at breakfast, and we were there pretty much first on opening. The staff replaced the eggs whist we were waiting for the toast so we swapped to the new ones - they must have been cooked at the same time as the originals as they too were cold and rubbery. On the upside the coffee was good and the pastries were nice. Breakfast staff kept the tables clear and cleaned very quickly, but really, treat yourself and have a better breakfast out in the many places close to the hotel.

The staff were all lovely. We couldn't get any internet connection as the hotel wifi was being updated and our room appeared to have a dead spot for the free 'unsecure' wifi available. Receptionist, another hotel colleague (computer whizz) and even the maintenance man all tried to get us online. They couldn't get us connected but it wasn't for the lack of trying on their part. Thanks to all for trying.

The breakfast was disappointing compared to previous visits. Bacon hard, no fruit yoghurt just plain yoghurt presumably for putting on the disappointing fruit salad which appeared to be just pieces of different coloured melon. Most importantly, tables weren’t cleared quickly enough so all in all it had the feel of a JD Wetherspoons dining experience. On a positive note, the staff were very helpful and friendly and although disappointing, the breakfast would not prevent me from staying again in the future.

On entering the room which overlooks the back I phoned and asked reception what the constant noise was ? She rang back after a short while to say it wax the kitchen fans and offered us another room . I declined as we have unpacked and settled for the night and was assured it would go off around 10pm ? What we wasn’t told is that it came on again just gone 5am !! Not a very good sleep as you can imagine ? If there were other rooms why were we put in that one ? Was it because of the good deal with yourselves ?

Location was ideal, breakfast was good. The staff were polite but did not give tourist information about the area, which you think would be to their advantage as well as ours. Next door was the Harrogate pump room museum very good, we found this ourselves admission £2.50 for pensioner's, well worth the visit.

Pigeons outside our bedroom window waking us up both nights from 05:00hrs onward, this could be remedied by using pigeon ante spikes in the right places, was also quite surprised and disappointed to have to pay £12.00 parking each night.

Central hotel in Harrogate. Attentive staff but the restaurant service could be improved. Taking meals to the wrong tables, not always being acknowledged by the staff. After taking our order for food we waited 10 minutes before we could catch the waitresses attention to ask for a drink. Breakfast was totally different - a good experience. In the room our only criticism was the very creaky floors which we were told was the same in all the rooms. General Manager was brilliant as was the lady behind the bar in the brasserie.

Fantastic stay! Building is beautiful and so full of character.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
We had a suite and it was huge! Four poster bed, second twin bedroom and beautiful bathroom with separate bath and shower.
Location was great and no outside noise.

The hotel is in a fabulous location for exploring Harrogate on foot.
The room was warm and comfortable with lovely towels, bedding and plenty of hot water and a good shower.
When we went down for dinner, the young staff in the bar were polite but unfortunately couldn't answer our questions on wines or even find a wine list for us, which was a missed opportunity because we ended up going elsewhere for a pre-dinner drink. The dinner was tasty, nice simple choices with something to suit most people. It would have been nice to see a cheese option for dessert for those like myself who don't eat sweet things. All the desserts were very rich.
The choice at breakfast was adequate, quality could have been better on bread and pastries and fresh fruit.
All in all for the price we paid we were satisfied and would return.

First contact at hotel was with reception which was excellent. Bedroom not as cosy as we would have liked due to heating and decor but bed was first class. Dining room staff were excellent as were all members of staff and a credit to the hotel.

The hotel is in a central location so great for access to bars restaurants & shops. The car park is £12 per day so perhaps about right for Harrogate. The foyer, bar & restaurant were all really nice. The breakfast room was very large & not very intimate, but with flashes of grandeur. Breakfast was buffet, self service & was nice enough.
Room wasn’t in the best location, overlooking the boiler house/pipes & there was quite a bit of noise coming from it.
We didn’t complain as the price was cheap & we were only there for 1 night.

Excellent value for money, the hotel is ideally placed for everything around Harrogate.
The staff were all very helpful, the hotel itself could possibly do with some updating.
We had a disabled room which was adequate, however we did have to ask for another heater for the room we appreciate its a very old building & it has lots of character also there was no heating at all in the bathroom & it was very cold.
Breakfast was fine & coffee in the afternoon in the bar area if you wanted it.
As a whole experience would recommend without any problem.

This is a lovely hotel, the hotel is well situated for all shops bars cafes ect,. The room was a good size and very comfortable, with a good size ensuite,. The staff on reception and in the bar was very pleasant and helpful. There is plenty of space to relax and chill. Breakfast was ok good selection, but sausages was rubbish. Looking forward to coming again.

Good sized double room, clean and comfortable, though not very warm. Took a while to get a hot shower, but probably due to the age of the building. Able to check in early, lovely public rooms, though lacked atmosphere.

Great location. Staff friendly and happy to help. Good cooked breakfast buffet style. The room we were in was a good size and spotlessly clean. I suppose the downside was that the room decor was a bit dated and some wallpaper was peeling off the wall. Unfortunately what could have been a great view of the park being situated at the top front of the hotel was obscured a bit due to the windows not having been cleaned in a while but as we were out and about for most of the time, we didn't let this bother us. Overall it did the job.

Very squeaky floor boards in our room and the room above us which meant we had disturbed sleep.
Our room entry card didn’t work had to go back to reception 3 times to sort it out.
Bar staff very young and inexperienced.
Disturbed sleep due to very loud people in the room next door to us security were informed and had a word with the people in the room this went on for about an hour.
Not much parking for the size of the hotel we had to park in the nearby car park which cost £11 a day.

This hotel is in a very central location and this is its main attraction. It however needs some updating.
The room we had was spacious and clean but old fashioned and dated looking.
It was cleaned well daily but the heating radiator didn't work and a portable radiator was provided on our second night. We did receive a partial refund for the inconvenience.

Staff were generally good and pleasant but there was a feeling of inexperience by some of those in the dining room and often a fairly long wait for dinner. Whilst the dinner dishes were very good, breakfast was a poor experience due to a very limited choice of, for example, fruit . Equally there was no cold meat or even cheese if you wanted more of a continental buffet.
Often the cooked food in the terrines was quite cold but this may be partly due to some guests not closing the lids on the terrines!
This could be an excellent hotel but overall I found it to be simply "ok". Had I not got a discounted rate via travelzoo I would have been disappoined.

Reception staff gave a very warm welcome and were very informative about the parking and general hotel info.
All bar and restaurant staff nice and smiley and happy to serve us.
We are in Henry’s Bar which was excellent. Chicken Burger served was crammed with fresh salad and Tomatoes and the chicken breast was succulent. Beautifully presented too.

Breakfast wasn’t the best quality and if I’m honest a little tasteless. It was help yourself buffet so you could have want you want and leave the rest, so no real complaints.
Parking is very limited so call ahead and try to reserve a place but it’s not guaranteed so be warned. Parking is £12 per day and on street parking is only for 3 hours max. Nearby parking is available but it’s also approx £15 a day.
Just plan ahead.

Really enjoyed our one night stay and it was definitely value for money. Location perfect, food excellent as was the service. The only negative was how cold the dining room was - almost too cold to enjoy the lovely meal. People were going back to their rooms to get jumpers and coats in some cases.

Checking in was easy, staff were polite. We had a lovely room, it was very spacious and clean and looked out the front. Breakfast was ok, there was a lot of choice and plenty of room. The parking was ok the first night, but there were no spaces for the rest of our stay, so we parked at the Montpellier Shoppers car park, which was actually cheaper overnight and a very short walk away. The location is perfect and within easy walk of everything you need, overall we had a very positive experience.

The Crown Hotel in Harrogate is in an ideal location right near to the centre. Parking is limited but there’s plenty of other car parks nearby. The hotel is of course an old building and as with a lot of this type of hotel rooms are often outdated, as was the one we stayed in. Although the radiator in the bedroom was hot the room itself wasn’t and there was no heating at all in the bathroom which was also very draughty. One of the bedroom windows had a huge crack in it. Our room looked out over the kitchen roof where all the ventilation and extractors were which were quite noisy until. Once the kitchen closed the noise stopped but started again at 5.30am. I overheard a few guests complaining to reception staff about this and other issues, we didn’t bother as we were only staying one night. Good breakfast though. All in all for £79 it was ok and we got what we paid for. Christmas market was very disappointing (Thursday/ Friday in December) don’t know where the advertised 50 stalls were!

There is difficulty in parking, we booked our evening meal for 7.30, although we wanted 7.00 which was booked up. We ordered our meal by 7.45, and waited until 8.45-9.00 for the main course. Waitress apologies only, no kind of recompense. Our second day experience at breakfast was not as good as the first. No teapots, milk jugs and shortages in other areas. All the staff that we encountered were polite and smiley.

Very good check in experience and room was large and clean. Dining experience was okay but server mixed up our order and incorrectly placed our steaks. He then delivered our wine bottle without displaying or opening the bottle. Lack of training and experience otherwise a personable young man. Welcome drink value questionable a bottle of beer or a small wine. Otherwise an enjoyable stay.

The rooms need soundproofing, I've never had a noisier neighbour. Paper thin walls, we could hear all the banging and clattering from 6am. I am sure they went out for a run letting the doors bang shut on their own, instead of respecting other guests.

Very comfortable. A joy to be able to open the window in our room if only a few inches instead of air conditioning blasting out. Hotel hall a really traditional feel with a beautiful foyer and function rooms. We have already booked to go there again as location was excellent.

Very good value for money. The room was pleasant, clean and comfortable with excellent views of the centre of town, so handy for all the places we wanted to visit. Breakfast was plentiful, with a variety of foods on offer. All staff that we came into contact with were professional and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay very much.

A refrigerator should be provided for the rooms, even if it isn't a mini-bar. The rooms are probably due an update in décor, but I suppose this is reflected in the price.

My daughter and son-in-law had stayed a while before and told us they remembered our good the breakfast was but unfortunately we found it to be okay but nothing out of ordinary. Area and location perfect and good value - Thankyou

The Travelzoo price was very low but I’d rather have paid more to get a room with a better outlook. However, the room was perfectly clean and presentable but quite basic. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, spacious and perfectly fine. There wasn’t a fridge.

Lovely one night stay, good food, lovely buffet breakfast. Staff attentive. Perfect for our visit to Harrogate Christmas Markets late checkout and welcome drink as part of the travelzoo package was a nice bonus.

After a bit of a mix up with our dinner reservations the duty manager very kindly and without a fuss gave us a generous discount on the evening meal, customer service second to none and on this basis we would be happy to return
