Overview

Samlesbury Hall Shepherd's Hut Hamlet is a colourful collection of luxury converted shepherd's huts in the grounds of historic Samlesbury Hall (open Sunday-Friday), a 13th-century stately home with regular exhibitions, events and guided tours.

Called "luxury accommodation with a rural edge" by VisitEngland, the huts have two double beds with memory-foam mattresses, central heating, and ensuite bathrooms with a spacious shower, hot water, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries. There are also tea- and coffee-making facilities in the huts and free Wi-Fi throughout the site.

Samlesbury Hall has a restaurant serving breakfast (8:30-10am Monday Friday and 9-10:30am at weekends; must be pre-booked), lunch and afternoon tea. Dottie's Wafflery serves up a selection of sweet treats. In the evening, you can gather around the on-site fire pit for a campfire, light up the barbecue or dine at one of the picnic tables dotted around the grounds.

There's plenty to keep the whole family busy on site, including the Bee & Heritage Centre, a menagerie of animals, a mini golf course and a woodland playground.

The Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Ribble Valley and the Tolkien Trail -- a walking route through landscapes that inspired several locations in The Lord of the Rings -- are less than 25 minutes' drive away. Brockholes Nature Reserve is just over five minutes away by car. Manchester and Liverpool are around 50 minutes' drive away.

Please note that access to the huts is via a maintained gravel path -- it might be advisable to take a torch at night. The grounds are also locked in the late evening but guests are given a key to open gates. There are dog-friendly huts available -- please enquire on booking.

My children enjoyed the experience. We found the hut very cosy. The radiators unfortunately made little impact on the hut. On the Sunday morning we woke up to no hot water or heating. After reading the hut manual we discovered that we were unable to reset the boiler until we spoke to a member of staff who provided us with the code for the locked boiler cupboard. The hut could have done with a really good floor clean and cobwebs removing from the light in the main hut. The bedding and towels were extremely clean.

Lovely huts, however they could do with a good dusting.

We were disappointed to find that a wedding was taking place on the day of our arrival which meant the hall itself and all the facilities were closed. I feel we ought to have been notified of this in advance which would have allowed us to alter our arrival time or plan alternate activities in advance

Great stay for a young family. Shepherds hut is on the snug side but super warm and cozy with a great shower and plenty of hot water. Clean beds but the the floor was grubby and there were cobwebs and some dirt in hard to get to places. Good restaurant for meals, with a kids menu, and Dotties Wafflery is amazing for sweet treats and fab coffee. The hall itself was interesting to go round. The kids play area, plus the animals and Bee Centre means there’s enough to spark kid’s interest over a couple of days especially if there are organised events happening in the hall. Enjoyed most evenings outside using the picnic bench and fire-pit which our daughter loved.
