"Quirky huts that look great and are comfortable inside with heating and double bed. Coffee cups weren’t sparkling clean and car park/path poorly lit at night but otherwise a good stay."

Overview

Samlesbury Hall Shepherd's Hut Hamlet is a colourful collection of luxury converted shepherd's huts in the grounds of historic Samlesbury Hall (open Sunday-Friday), a 13th-century stately home with regular exhibitions, events and guided tours.

Called "luxury accommodation with a rural edge" by Visit England, the huts have two double beds with memory-foam mattresses, central heating and ensuite bathrooms with a spacious shower, hot water, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries. There are also tea- and coffee-making facilities in the huts and free Wi-Fi throughout the site.

Samlesbury Hall has a restaurant serving breakfast (8:30-10am Monday Friday and 9-10:30am at weekends; must be pre-booked), lunch and afternoon tea. Dottie's Wafflery serves up a selection of sweet treats. In the evening, you can gather around the on-site fire pit for a campfire, light up the barbecue or dine at one of the picnic tables dotted around the grounds.

There's plenty to keep the whole family busy on site, including the Bee & Heritage Centre, a menagerie of animals, a mini golf course and a woodland playground.

The Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Ribble Valley and the Tolkien Trail -- a walking route through landscapes that inspired several locations in The Lord of the Rings -- are less than 25 minutes' drive away. Brockholes Nature Reserve is just over five minutes away by car. Manchester and Liverpool are around 50 minutes' drive away.

There are dog-friendly huts available -- please enquire on booking.

Separate enough from the main hall so no worries about disturbing wedding guests (or vice versa!)

we like doing different/spur of the moment things an this was a lovely experience. Out of season and very quiet but would have enjoyed it just as much if it had been busier. You did not feel crowded or overlooked by any of the other huts. Weather could have been better so we did not walk around all of the grounds. We had breakfast one morning which was lovely and great being able to make tea/coffee in hut. Spotlessly clean and bed comfortable. Glad that the heating was easy to adjust as it did turn a bit cool and wet while we were there. No problems with wi-fi.

My husband and I said we would both like to return again so I think that says it all really.

Generally very enjoyable. Huts were marketed as 'luxury' shepherds huts and whilst they were they were more than adequate, they were not as clean as they could be. Also the responsibility of two women alone, in the dark, having the responsibility of opening and locking the gate for the whole site including for the hall, was a bit unacceptable we thought. Also, from a security point of view, the padlock was faulty and took some time to lock properly. Whilst I texted the 'emergency' number to tell them of our concerns, no one bothered to respond at all. Plus, being the only people on the whole site overnight was quite alarming and we felt quite vulnerable on first night. There was one other hut which was being used, but we didn't find out until afterwards. On the whole good for the reduced price we paid, but not sure they would be worth full price without a few improvements. Thanks.

May be worth putting a washing up block on site, provide 4 chairs, improve information on website, ie bedding included, bring extra logs for the fire pit, no fridge included. We had everything we needed as I pack everything you could possibly need, however other guests did not know there was no fridge and did not bring chairs for themselves.
