Overview

Samlesbury Hall Shepherd's Hut Hamlet is a colourful collection of luxury converted shepherd's huts in the grounds of historic Samlesbury Hall (open Sunday-Friday), a 13th-century stately home with regular exhibitions, events and guided tours.

Called "luxury accommodation with a rural edge" by Visit England, the huts have two double beds with memory-foam mattresses, central heating and ensuite bathrooms with a spacious shower, hot water, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries. There are also tea- and coffee-making facilities in the huts and free Wi-Fi throughout the site.

Samlesbury Hall has a restaurant serving breakfast (8:30-10am Monday Friday and 9-10:30am at weekends; must be pre-booked), lunch and afternoon tea. Dottie's Wafflery serves up a selection of sweet treats. In the evening, you can gather around the on-site fire pit for a campfire, light up the barbecue or dine at one of the picnic tables dotted around the grounds.

There's plenty to keep the whole family busy on site, including the Bee & Heritage Centre, a menagerie of animals, a mini golf course and a woodland playground.

The Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Ribble Valley and the Tolkien Trail -- a walking route through landscapes that inspired several locations in The Lord of the Rings -- are less than 25 minutes' drive away. Brockholes Nature Reserve is just over five minutes away by car. Manchester and Liverpool are around 50 minutes' drive away.

There are dog-friendly huts available -- please enquire on booking.

The only downside to Samlesbury Hall is not being able to use the facilities onsite on some Fridays and not being informed of this at the time of booking therefore our plans on departure day were cut short as the hall, bee centre, shop were all closed due to a Wedding. If I had known about this I would of changed my booking.

Loved our stay and have recommended it. Just a few suggestions for improvements in the hut: mattress and pillow protectors for hygiene, better pillows, hand soap in the bathroom at child height, fitted sheets (they came off in the night) and the toiletries shouldn’t be described as luxury on the website - it’s just two dispensers in the shower. Despite that stuff, had a brilliant time. Cosy hut, loads to do, gorgeous waffles. Thank you.

Would be better if there was a picnic bench for each hut.

Our Hut needs leveling, rocked a little when moving around. Recycling facilities needed.
