New Road Hotel is a boutique hotel in East London's Whitechapel area that opened in April, 2018.

It is based in a former textile factory, and has retained some of its industrial character, with exposed brick walls and warehouse-style rooms. Each floor has a lounge and vending machines, from which you can help yourself to tea, coffee and hot chocolate. There's also a library, a games zone with a pool table, and a cereal café, where you can try a cereal cocktail or create one of your own.

The trendy shops and bars of Shoreditch are a 20-minute stroll away. Head to Columbia Road on a Sunday for its famous flower market or explore the vintage shops of Brick Lane, which are "full of noise, colour and life" (Lonely Planet). Tower Bridge and the Tower of London are less than 25 minutes' walk from the hotel, while Whitechapel Art Gallery is less than 10 minutes' walk away.

Whitechapel station (for London Underground and Overground services) is less than five minutes' walk away -- from there you can get to Victoria, Westminster or Oxford Street in less than 15 minutes. Head to Wapping, five minutes away on the Overground, for a drink at one of its riverside pubs as the sun goes down.

For lunch or dinner, you can head downstairs to Mr White's English Chophouse -- the first Marco Pierre White Chophouse in London. Expect classic British dishes with a French flair.

Rooms are compact and "stylishly functional" (The Daily Telegraph), with large windows. Warehouse K rooms have a king-size bed and a rainfall shower in the bathroom. Warehouse X rooms have a super king-size bed. Please note that in some rooms, beds are against the wall down one side. All rooms have international sockets and USB ports. Wi-Fi is free and secure luggage storage is available.

The only thing that let the hotel down was location but on positive side lots of places are within easy access., from there.

The Hotel itself is actually really nice, it's 'quirky' so first impressions of the actual hotel were good. Also with regards the issues we experienced above, on checking out we informed one of the Manager's about the issues and he was most apologetic stating that this behaviour was just not acceptable informing us that he would do something about it, and said that should we wish to stay at the hotel again, to contact him direct and he would look after us. So I have to say, he chose to deal with the situation really well. It's just a shame the above things happened as they made what should have been a lovely weekend away not so nice. I would also like to add that one of the waiter's who's name I didn't get was just great, he was so friendly, helpful and polite so Thank you to him. In fact it was he who put his colleague on reception right with regards the complimentary drink issue. With regards the 2 questions about would we go back to this hotel and would we recommend it, one only has a chance to say Yes or No. Although at this stage I've put No as there wasn't a 'Maybe' answer, the chances are we may stay at this hotel again but only because as previously stated, the actual hotel was nice and the Manager dealt with our issues in a good way.

First of all the Breakfast, although it tasted really nice, I believe we were given Halal Sausages/Bacon even though it states Full English/Irish Breakfast. I absolutely don't have an issue with eating Halal but it would have been good to have been given the choice that it states. Also the Service provided by the person working behind the bar was quite rude including the fact that he chose to charge us a 12.5% service charge when we physically walked up to the bar ourselves to order our drinks!!! We also had a voucher in our room which stated that if we ate in the restaurant which we did on our first night, we would be given a complimentary drink each. On requesting this, the chap on reception only wanted to refund us one of the drinks, not one each which was rather strange.

The hotel was brilliant with great decor. The bed was really comfortable and the hotel was really quiet considering its city location

Only negatives were; The smell in the shower/bathroom - possibly drains/hot weather? Miserable waitress at breakfast who clearly didn't want to be there. We were told we could only have one item from the menu while tables all around us ordered with the male waiter and could order several. We discussed this with the male waiter and this was rectified thankfully, but annoying at the time.

Excellent hotel but a bit too far out for our visit. Only downside was breakfast on one day ran out of hot water for tea coffee and beans with breakfast. Also had no pastries. I think the couldn’t be bothered to top anything up as no excuse for no hot water for drinks . Excellent value for money and beautifully decorated.

I was a little apprehensive that I might feel a little out of place at the Hotel (was down in London to celebrate my 60th birthday) but I had such a warm welcome from Isabelle and was made to feel right at home. I loved the transformation of this old building and the clever use of communal spaces on each floor. Would highly recommend and will definitely return as I never got a chance to try the Cereal Bar.

Stylish and imaginative reuse of an industrial building.

The choice of ordinary cornflakes would have been nice. And why oh why can’t you get served your full English on a plate!
