The Talbot Inn
About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- Recently restored to its former glory, this 19th-century red-brick Worcestershire coaching inn has a contemporary style, while maintaining its rustic charm
- The hotel "caters for weary travellers' needs in the best possible manner", says Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay
- The Shropshire Hills and Malvern Hills are both less than 30 minutes' drive away
- Stokesay Castle and the market town of Ludlow, once described by Sir John Betjeman as "the most perfect town in England", are both less than 30 minutes' drive away
The Talbot Inn is located in the quaint village of Tenbury Wells, which borders the River Teme in Worcestershire. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside that's ideal for hikers and cyclists, the inn is also a great base from which to explore the Malvern Hills and Shropshire Halls Areas of Outstanding Beauty, which are both less than 30 minutes' drive away.
The genteel market town of Ludlow, known for its "black-and-white Tudor buildings lining its cobbled streets" and "the rambling ruins of its fine Norman castle" (Lonely Planet), is a 20-minute drive away. We recommend the farmer’s market and The Mousetrap shop, where you can sample some of Shropshire's and Herefordshire’s finest cheeses.
Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve, one of the largest ancient oak woodlands in England, is a 15-minute drive away, and National Trust-owned Berrington Hall, an 18th-century Neoclassical mansion with period furnishings and surrounding gardens, is 20 minutes' drive away.
Stokesay Castle, a fortified 13th-century manor house with a moat, is 30 minutes away by car, and Leominster, with its medieval, half-timbered buildings, is also 20 minutes' drive away.
The restaurant boasts a menu that changes frequently and uses fresh produce from local suppliers and the inn's own vegetable garden. Food is served in the panelled dining room. The bar offers a range of locally brewed ales and ciders.
Rooms are recently refurbished but maintain their rustic charm, with features such as lancet windows and antique furniture. There is free Wi-Fi.
