Overview
The 5-star Hotel Il Castelfalfi - TUI BLUE SELECTION opened in March, 2017, and is the latest addition to the Toscana Resort Castelfalfi -- home to "2700 lush acres of vineyards, olive groves, woods and lakes - not to mention 800 years of history and the biggest golf course in Tuscany" (Forbes).
Florence, Siena and Pisa are all within an hour's drive of the medieval borgo (village), although you may find it difficult to tear yourself away from this "majestic Italian resort" (Forbes).
San Gimignano -- an old town encircled by 13th-century walls and centred on Piazza della Cisterna, lined with medieval houses -- is 30 minutes' drive away. We recommend visiting its 12th-century church with frescoes by Ghirlandaio.
The estate makes its own wine and olive oil using produce from the 57 acres of vineyards and over 9,000 olive trees. The hotel can organise tastings in the rustic wine cellar, together with a range of other activities, such as cooking classes, truffle foraging, and horse riding (fees apply).
For light meals and drinks, the Ecrù bar serves coffee and pastries throughout the day, as well as cocktails and snacks. For dinner, La Via del Sale restaurant has a Mediterranean-inspired menu and a veranda where you can take in views over the surrounding valley and admire the Tuscan sunset. There are two further bars and restaurants within the resort.
The spa offers a selection of beauty and body treatments (fees apply) or you can simply enjoy the extensive facilities, which include both an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool with whirlpool features, a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna, a steam bath and a relaxation area.
Golf lovers are in for a treat -- the estate boasts the largest golf course in Tuscany, with two courses and 27 holes, including the 18-hole Mountain Course. There is also a driving range and a clubhouse.
Elegant rooms feature wood floors and earthy, natural tones inspired by the property's surroundings. Upgraded room types offer additional space while Suites have a separate living area and a private terrace or garden. Wi-Fi is free.
