Named after the year the hotel was built, 1908 Lisboa Hotel is in the Intendente district, 15 minutes' walk from Baixa, the most central of Lisbon's districts and an area with many shops, bars and restaurants.
The Elevador de Santa Justa is 15 minutes' walk away at the corner of pretty Rossio Square. The elaborate Gothic wrought-iron lift offers views across the whole city. São Jorge Castle is 20 minutes' away -- set at the top of one of Lisbon's seven hills, this Moorish fortress has impressive views of the city from its towers and ramparts.
You can take a vintage number-28 tram through the cobbled hills of Alfama and Graça to the lively Bairro Alto district, or head out of town to see the UNESCO World Heritage Site Belém Tower and the spectacular Monastery of the Hieronymites.
The Infame Restaurant has a "bright tile floor, steampunk light fixtures, supple leather club couches, red-brick walls and ceiling, and oversized insect murals" (Wallpaper*)and serves Asian-influenced food. There is also a bar.
The hotel's décor combines Art Nouveau touches and pieces by contemporary Portuguese artists. Rooms have balconies with city views. Wi-Fi is free.
