Why We Love This Hotel

  • The 18th-century Lion Hotel Criccieth is on the Llŷn Peninsula, a 5-minute walk from the Blue Flag-awarded Criccieth Beach and 15 minutes' drive from Snowdonia National Park — you can see the mountains and the sea from the hotel
  • Criccieth Castle, which dates back to the 13th-century, is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Its ruins are perched on a cliff and offer views along the southern coast of the peninsula and over to Harlech
  • Frommer's describes Criccieth as one of the "best towns on the peninsula", due to its location — the harbour town of Porthmadog is a 10-minute drive away and marks the start of the 91-mile Llŷn Coastal Path, which runs around the peninsula to Caernarfon
  • Portmeirion, made famous in the TV series "The Prisoner", is 20 minutes drive away. This Italianate village was designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis
  • The hotel's restaurant, Llewelyn's, serves British cuisine made using local produce and a Sunday carvery is served throughout the year. You can enjoy drinks in the Mane Place bar

Central location in a lovely spacious hotel. Room was fine for our needs - a little tired, but absolutely fine for a couple of nights. Bed was a standard double, plenty of hot water and quiet location.

Really enjoyed the 3 night break even though hotel very quiet the week before Christmas. Loved the hotel - looked lovely and cosy. Would have given 5* for staff as all were efficient and friendly except for the barman who was seriously lacking the Christmas spirit! Food was very good and room immaculate - looked like it had just been refurbished. Ate in bar one night and food was good. Would very happily go again.
