Overview

The 18th-century Lion Hotel Criccieth is on the Llŷn Peninsula, a 5-minute walk from the Blue Flag-awarded Criccieth Beach and 15 minutes' drive from Snowdonia National Park -- you can see the mountains and the sea from the hotel.

Criccieth Castle, which dates back to the 1230s, is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Its ruins are perched on a cliff and offer views along the southern coast of the peninsula and over to Harlech.

Frommer's describes Criccieth as one of the "best towns on the peninsula", due to its location; the harbour town of Porthmadog is a 10-minute drive away and marks the start of the 91-mile Llŷn Coastal Path, which runs around the peninsula to Caernarfon.

Portmeirion, made famous in the TV series "The Prisoner", is 20 minutes away. This Italianate village was designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis.

The bar serves British cuisine made using local produce. Wi-Fi is free.

The friendly welcoming atmosphere and helpful staff. The cosy, relaxing seating area by the open fire. The very good food. The central location for sightseeing.
Other Comments
I took off one star because the switch on the shower unit in our bathroom was broken and the shower water pressure was very weak. That was a minor detail and we liked the hotel very much.

The staff were excellent. Nice lounge. Bedroom was fine, WIFI.
Other Comments
Better quality coffee at breakfast. Either provide milk for cereal or more milk at the table. Breakfast was fine but what is not so good is that it is left under the hot lamps. Fried eggs this way are NOT appealing.

Our room - number 44 - was cosy, spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm. Nice linen and towels, with a lovely big bath with endless hot water for soaking in after a long day’s hard walking. Everything we needed was supplied .
